Starter set of shorter stories

The Distant Future of Fandom (age 15) would like to read some SGA fic. She doesn't remember much about canon -- yes, this means a rewatch is imminent -- but would like a recs list of stories that are:

1. Below NC-17 in rating, for my sake as much as hers. She can find her own porn, lalalalallala fingersinmyears. Gen is *fine*, character-driven preferred.

2. less than 10K long, she's not in the mood for epic atm.

3. not too far off the beat of canon, at least as far as characterization.

4. more-than-twosomes not a problem, but go easy on the tentacles, etc.

5. really good.

I don't want to point her to Freedom's Just Another Word too early, I want there to be a build-up so she appreciates it.

Salt of the Earth (http://www.area52hkh.net/asd/dasha/saltof01.php) by Dasha. Rodney suffers a serious injury off world, and this story is about his recovery from that.

Never Stop Moving (http://megtipper.tripod.com/neverstop.htm) by Tipper. Teyla centric story about her finding her place on the team, then carving out an even better one. Great teaminess in this one.

friendshipper has a Fanfic:SGA tag (http://friendshipper.livejournal.com/tag/fanfic%3Asga) that has loads and loads of chracter-driven gen stories. She's wonderful for maintaining canon characterizations and telling compelling stories. Plan D, or How Rodney McKay Went Offworld and Found His Way Home Again by Toomuchplor (http://archiveofourown.org/works/119609) - my niece loves this story. When Atlantis's new head of science Dr. Rodney McKay is forced to join an offworld team at the behest of the conniving and bureaucratic Samantha Carter, he is torn between terror and excitement. Can Rodney find a way to fit in with his military boyfriend's team? Can he survive the horrors of interplanetary travel? And, most importantly, will Carter remember to feed the cat if he doesn't come back?

And my recs:

Who's left and who's leaving. It's dark-ish, but a not-tooooooo-heavy introduction to that genre, I think (and a relatively happy ending). fiercelydreamed is amazing. Also, gen with a nod to John/Rodney pre-slash, and written pre-Season 5, so there are some canon inconsistencies. 9500 words, so just under epic.

Homework, by busaikko is a short (1k) fic that's John/Ronon from Dave's POV (epistolery fic) and wonderful. And then there's the flipside, from Ronon's POV, Fieldwork by rheanna (3k). Both under NC-17, busaikko's rated teen-ish and rheanna's rated all ages.

For a bit of cracky fun, skoosiepants's Clubhouse fic (PG-13, 6k, McShep) is delightful (where the guys all get deaged to 6 (plus Larry)), and devildoll's sequel (also 6k, PG-13, McShep).

There is a surprising lack of Mature and NC-17 fic in my favorites, and also, a surprising amount of AUs. Looks like she's got enough to tide her over for a while, though!

This one cracks me up, and it's a lot of fun, though it's a little longer than you requested:
The True Story of When They Went A-Wandering by Auburn: It's just like a mission, only not. Team Sheppard tours Pegasus. (~16,000 words, gen, R)

My Home And Native Land by sam_storyteller: Ronon's friendship with Chuck, the head Gate Tech of the Atlantis mission, leads him to discover the strange and alien ways of Canadians and helps him lay his past to rest. (15,416 words, gen, PG)

Retrograde series by LtLJ is awesome, but is really long (107,270 words altogether). I'd rec it for later consumption. It's gen except for a later story, Vegas, which is John/Rodney/Teyla.
