[identity profile] deedlit50.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] sgarecfinders

I'm requesting long McKay/Sheppard slash fics with complex plots or lots of character development. Extra points for anything with science talk and political maneuvering. AU's are also fine.

[livejournal.com profile] jane_connor recced you a bunch of really good ones, but another excellent one I'd add (yes, it's time to rec it again) is Indelible (http://archiveofourown.org/works/120496?view_full_work=true) by [livejournal.com profile] shaenie. ~128,300 words of McShep plotty goodness, includes mathy!John, finding more Ancient toys, telepathic bonding via control chairs, one of the coolest OCs around, and an awesome space-battle. as just some of the subplots.

Much shorter, but plenty of political maneuvering (by Teyla, with assistance from Woolsey and the team), and a slow development into McShep, [livejournal.com profile] lilyfarfalla's Where to Start Over and How to Begin (http://community.livejournal.com/sga_santa/312536.html) (or, How they nabbed Atlantis and took it back to Pegasus while making the IOA think it was a great idea). ~15,300 words.

You might also like this earlier post asking for Epic-length McShep fics (http://community.livejournal.com/sgagenrefinders/820471.html). Happy reading! :)

You're very welcome!
And if you don't mind a self-pimp and are still looking for (more) ways to navigate the vast ocean of SGA fic, in hopes of helping other new entrants to the fandom, after I'd gotten immersed for a bit, I compiled a (Newer) SGA fic Readers Guide (http://skaredykat.livejournal.com/1083.html) post that lists a bunch of resources I found useful (and wished I'd found earlier myself). :)

That's a tricky thing! (Personally I'd say start with [livejournal.com profile] astolat, [livejournal.com profile] resonant8, and [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza's SGA fics as excellent introductions to the fandom -- though I'd save astolat's Transcendental and speranza's 30,000+ word fics for a little later in your reading. Then probably some of ltlj/Martha Wilson's and [livejournal.com profile] friendshipper's short and mid-length fics, and then circle back to the first primer listed in my Readers Guide followed by maybe the stories on [livejournal.com profile] astridv and [livejournal.com profile] unamaga's big rec posts. After that, well, there's another few tens of thousands of SGA stories to entertain you...) Happy discovery and reading! :)

Welcome :)

BTW - Ooops - One Way Ticket is McKay/O'Neill so although it is John & Rodney Friendship it doesn't match your criteria.

Her McShep stories, long and short, are here http://davidhewlett.tarlanx.com/fiction/browse.php?type=categories&catid=1 (http://davidhewlett.tarlanx.com/fiction/browse.php?type=categories&catid=1)

If you haven't discovered it yet, SGA Big Bang has 64 McShep fics of at least 50,000 words each. Some of the best fics I've read in this fandom come from there. They can be found here: http://sgabigbang.talkoncorners.net/?view=pairings&id=1

You should also check out Keira Marcos' fics. She writes some of the best fanfiction I've read in any fandom. She mostly writes in series, but she has some one-shots as well. They can be found at her website: www.keiramarcos.com

Happy reading!

they have long stories that will keep you going for a while.

My all time fav is anything by Keira Marcos.

You're welcome. I'm happy to help. :)
The enthusiastic participation in the Big Bang is one of the best things about this fandom. I've been in this fandom forever and I still haven't made it through all of the BB fics.

Welcome to the fandom!

My new favorite long McShep fic has to be Unnatural Selection by Auburn (http://archiveofourown.org/works/113891/chapters/158923). It's a fusion with SGU and an extremely creative take on how the politics of the Pegasus Galaxy might have evolved if the Asurans had been an earlier threat to the Wraith. 165,000 words

I also really love Cute As... by Gillian (http://www.corplink.com.au/~gillianm/SGA_Cute_As_01.htm). A diabolical Genii plot has Rodney swapped into the body of a young female scientist. Around 60,000 words.

Another great story is Apocalypse Rising by sian1359 (http://archiveofourown.org/works/74056) where a Rodney & John who never went to Atlantis join forces to battle the Wraith who invade Earth. 80,000 words

And of course anything by the amazing Keira Marcos (http://keiramarcos.com/).

With apologies in advance for the lack of pretty links... I'm old and a Luddite.

That being said, Keira Marcos has several gloriously epic McShep fics...plotty, smutty, snarky and all around wonderful.

"What Might Have Been" is the first novel in a massive epic that is extremely addictive.

http://keiramarcos.com/fan-fiction-index/stargate-atlantis-fan-fiction/what-might-have-been-series-atlantis-au/

"Sentinels of Atlantis" is a crossover between SGA & The Sentinel. Also epic and fabulous.
http://keiramarcos.com/fan-fiction-index/stargate-atlantis-fan-fiction/the-sentinels-of-atlantis-atlantissentinel/

Keira's site has something like 1.3 million words of completed fiction posted, and it's all yummy.

One of my favourite Big Bang tales is seekergeek's "And All We Have" http://sgabigbang.talkoncorners.net/?view=fic&id=6

Okay, I think many of Speranza's fic would fit your request but Written By the Victors is a great example of the political maneuvering - http://www.trickster.org/speranza/cesper/Victors.html

(Also anything by Auburn for long and plotty, but I saw her already recced upthread)
