Suitable for children
Mar. 5th, 2011 07:04 pmI've been having 'fun' with this one!
My 8yo is a big SGA fan like her older brothers and she asked me if there was any fanfiction she could read, since she knows that I read SGA ff. Most of what I read in SGA is John/Rodney (and preferably loooooong), but now I need to look for short stories suitable for children. She is capable of reading The Hobbit - so reading level is not likely to be a problem - but her emotional age is still only 8, so pairings and violence should be fairly low-key. If you can think of anything suitable I'd be very grateful!
I'm thinking maybe team friendship fics might be where I should look? Or adventure-type stories? Oh and no drunk shenanigans - I'm surprised at how much gen fiction starts with the main characters getting drunk!
Oh - and if you know of any fanfiction archives which are specifically aimed at children that would also be welcome information.

Date: 2011-03-05 02:09 pm (UTC)But one of the best (for a child I think) is Into the Woods by Greyias - http://community.livejournal.com/sga_genficathon/8856.html#cutid1
It's Rodney-centered and it's so funny, it made me laugh and laugh.
I would highly rec everything over there, really! http://community.livejournal.com/sga_genficathon/
Of course you'll probably want to read the fic first to make sure they're appropriate (it's a tough job being a parent ;-) some of the stories are pretty heavy and deal with more mature subject matter - war and violence, things of that sort.

Date: 2011-03-05 02:28 pm (UTC)It's a great action/adventure story, but the thing I think your 8-year-old will like best is that Rodney stumbles across a group of kids that take a part in the story.

All should be fine for an 8-year-old. There might be minor swear words, though. If that's an issue, you might want to give them a quick glance first.
