I'm looking for everyone's favorite tearjerkers.  I like McShep, but any characters or pairings would be fine.

I'm not big on pure angst so these are lifetime-movie-tear-jerkers, overcoming real life type stuff.

My Father Before Me: McShep, past character death, future fic, R. Bittersweet and heartbreaking, even more so for being set so far in the future. One of my favorite fics ever. http://telleer.livejournal.com/326670.html

Fading Skies: McShep, major disability, AU, NC-17. John is wounded in Somalia. Very realistic. http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=10959

I just had to search it out of my collection, it was the first I thought of. The first time I read it... it just stuck with me

I went back to look again to re-read it and apparently there's a prequel too.

Let The Ghosts Lie Still by Elanthra

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6178805/1/Let_the_Ghosts_lie_Still

Summary: It's 8014NC and the World Ethics Committee has an important decision to make. How will they vote? A clone's story. Shep angst. Special guest star appearance of Daniel Jackson.

OMG! Amazing written fic and wonderful original story. I love Elanthra and this story demonstrates why. It will make you cry.

John also got a fic like that in Speaker for the Dead

I really just read that this afternoon. My eyes kept watering (makes it really hard to read lol)

I did a rec set of my 5 All-Time Favorite Really Most Sincerely Dead Stories (http://community.livejournal.com/sgversetop5/5595.html) a few months ago, 4 out of the 5 are SGA and most McShep (all pairings labeled). (Stories vary between very sad and sad and uplifting at the same time.)

Hth also wrote Penitent (http://archiveofourown.org/works/28937), ~8850 words, multiple pairings/near-OT4 but not.

A sort of inversion of Freedom's Just Another Word: I Got Soul But I'm Not A Soldier (http://minervacat.livejournal.com/951835.html) by [livejournal.com profile] minervacat, ~13,800 words. past McShep -- here it's John who survives Rodney.

And then there's The Ones You Leave Behind (http://www.refugeeblues.com/mcshepmatch/2009/war/fic13w_sab.html) by [livejournal.com profile] taste_is_sweet. McShep, ~30,200 words, Author's summary: "I love you," Rodney said. "You can't die anymore."

found this one in my "library" while looking for something else. Not a death fic but still made me tear up a bit.

This story is one of the very few that has reduced me to tears. The dream sequence is the part that is particularly gut-wrenching.

Also, seconding the rec for Freedoms Just Another Word. I've never been able to re-read it because it was so bittersweet.
