Oh my goodness! Only one??? Thats very difficult but I'll try.

Okay I'll go with a classic long fic that I always go back to. I've read it so many times and listen to the podficced version regularly(and after dozens of times I still get pulled into this story.) It's emo whump/angst but I'm very partial to emotional whumpage.

It's a well known fic in this fandom but one I adore. The wonderful- Your Cowboy Days Are Over (MAMMAS, DON'T LET YOUR BABIES GROW UP TO BE COWBOYS)

It's gen Shepwump (emowump) at it's best. Has some disturbing content but that can be said of most whump fics. Its a long fic and I find the podfic version beautifully read by General Jinju is a truely wonderful way to just become immersed in this story. I'm not too big on h/c so I only have one I really, really love. It's AU, est. relationship McShep, contains disability (no complete recovery, very realistic), and made me cry but it's all worth it. It's not all angst, there's some fun, and it does end on a happy note.

Late, but this is a good one. A Richer Dust Concealed (http://mirabile-dictu.slashcity.net/SGA/Dust.html) by mirabile_dictu has John lost on a harsh world far away in Pegasus, unfindable barring a miracle. John gets put through the wringer in this story but it's very satisfying in the end.

I just read this, and while I'm not exactly sure on the comfort aspect of the story, I think it kind of applies in that the team takes a kind of comfort in doing their part to support / protect one or all of the team. Warnings as this is a bit dark!fic what with rape & torture (not overly graphic, but the end results are seen as through the eyes of the team). If you can bear all that, then definitely give "Team equals Family (a.k.a. people Rodney would do anything for.)" (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=13099) by vampiric_mcd a chance. It's Gen!UST!McShep Pairing.
