McShep AU list

A couple/three weeks ago, anonymoouse gifted us with a giant AU McShep list. It was a Word document of about 180 stories that was emailed upon request. I got tired of cutting and pasting, so I wrestled it into a list with links. Then I added a bunch of sequel/prequel/companion pieces, results from the request she posted, some stuff from my Favorites and the dozen or so that the divine sheafrotherdon pointed me at, bringing it up to 260. Then I remembered that I'd been taught to share. :>

It's arranged alphabetically by John's profession (no, I'm not anal-retentive - just uber-organized), but can be Ctrl-F searched if you only remember Rodney's job. I've included the story lengths, as well (for when you just need a short story while you brush your teeth).

If you have any additions or corrections to the list, comment and I'll add them in. And all hail the mighty anonymoouse for doing the heavy listing that started this whole thing off.

I also love organised lists! Making it searchable will be very handy for rereading old favourites. :)

Thanks! Yeah, the ability to find them again was a big part of why I did it. And I figured to start out the year with a bang.

Also because; opening Word, waiting for Word to open, opening the file, finding the last one I read, copying the URL, closing the doc, closing the Word, going to the other window, pasting...and then reading the next story? Is too much trouble when you're as lazy as I. :grin:

So I figured that 12 hours of coding (okay, a couple of those might have been reading) was a better answer. :big grin:

Luckily, I have no RL to interfere. Or, well, I'm an adult and have no adult supervision, so I can just keep putting things to one side while I roll around in the McShep. :D

Thanks for the cookies - much healthier for me than the actual ones that I've been forced to eat. No, really - at gunpoint...forced to eat them. It was horrible. :snirk:

Just to say that I had been going to compile a new list where John is still pilot or Rodney is physicist type person but NOW I DON'T HAVE TO. This is just fabulous and I will now be coming to you instead. Be aware that the number of AU's out there is possibly approaching infinity....
I take it that you looked at my original request and have seen all the wonderful suggestions that people made? I couldn't use all of them as my list was going to be just where neither of them were their usual selves...
So many AU's, so many links to find. Have a terrific New Year and this will keep you busy!

I'm glad to be able to help you. I now know just what a giant undertaking you've been on. I did add the ones resulting from your request, as well as some others I had bookmarked and a bunch from Cate.

People are making suggestions over at my LJ post, and danceswithgary is giving me a list of 700, so I will be busy for some time. Luckily, I've got three more days off for the holiday weekend. :D

You are incredibly generous to share a piece of work that had to take days if not weeks to complete. Thank you so much as I had a crappy december as my mother passed away on Dec 17 and pretty much all I do is cry. This provides me with a way to occupy my mind so I don't replay things in my head and wonder what I could have done different. Sorry to be so depressing just had to let you know what your efforts meant to me.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mother, and I'm more glad than ever that I decided to post this list to sgagenrefinders. I remember how much I needed distraction when my own mom died, and if this list brings you any solace then every second I've spent on it has been worth it.

I'm sure you're tired of people saying this, but hang in there. It never stops sucking that your mom is gone, but eventually it stops hurting so sharply every moment of every damn day. It helps to think of good times and memories you had with her.

Your kind words mean a lot and I thank you for them maybe the more people tell me things get better the more I feel they might,my mom suffered a lot of pain and one of my comforts is she is out of pain and kindness from people like you. The people in this fandom is one of the reasons I love it.
