I'm looking for fic where Rodney goes off with someone else (Jennifer, Katie, some guy, whoever) and then decides to come back to John. And instead of saying yes, John says "no" or maybe "not in a million years because you threw me away and i'm not your toy"...you know, something like that. Or if he does take Rodney back, he makes him work for it & prove he wants him.

Also, I'm in the mood for a good cry, can anyone recommend a fic that made them cry? Especially if you cried because you were touched, but anything you can recommend would be great.

Thanks!

Tear Jerker

This one makes me cry each time I read it.
It's won the 2006 McKay/Sheppard Fan awards (Future Category.

Yep. This would be my first, second, and third recommendation in "good cry" fics. It's just that good -- and (IMO) ends on a hopeful note of sorts, so it doesn't break you and leave you broken.

If you want it to really pack a punch read the prequel first. The Stonemasons Buildings Want For His Hands Again (http://www.kekkai.org/synecdochic/sga/stonemasons_buildings.html).

Ooh, I didn't know about that one. Thanks so much for the link. I'll save it for the next time I'm in need of a good catharsis.

For your second request, I recommend "Qualities of Silk" from the 2007 Big Bang (http://sgabigbang.talkoncorners.net/?view=fic&id=14) Absolutely made me cry. Haven't been able to read it in nearly two years it was that emotional for me.

Way too many SGA stories have made me cry over the years, but the most recent is My Father Before Me (http://telleer.livejournal.com/326670.html) by [livejournal.com profile] telleer.

I'll also recommend one of my favorite stories of all time, Unidentified (http://fiercelydreamed.livejournal.com/8714.html) by [livejournal.com profile] the_drifter. It's not exactly a tear-jerker, but it's just so beautiful and affecting that I cried through the end of it, happiness notwithstanding.

There are so many great cry fics out there but 'Your Cowboy Days are Over' (http://www.butcheredart.net/Fiction/YourCowboyDays.html) always makes me cry no matter how many times I read it (or listen to the beautifully read podfic version of it). I was haunted by that story for a long time after I first read it, everything Shep went through, none of it really his fault and no way it could ever be put right in a way that wouldn't leave him and those who love him haunted by it. Very sad.

For #2:

"Speaker For The Dead" (http://www.hawksong.com/~thammill/SGA_Fic/speaker.htm) & its sequel "Jeden Dobrý Člověk [One Good Man]" (http://www.hawksong.com/~thammill/SGA_Fic/good_man.htm) by [livejournal.com profile] mrshammill pretty much covers how first John grieves for Rodney, & then how his & Rodney's friends grieve for first Rodney & then John.

"The Return to Normalcy" (http://sgabigbang.talkoncorners.net/index.php?view=fic&id=15) by Cypher covers John's & Rodney's re-adjustment to life on Earth with no chance to go back to Atlantis.

Part of the Paradigm Shift 'verse ([livejournal.com profile] ps_verse) - "Breathe In" (http://openice.livejournal.com/276394.html) by [livejournal.com profile] openice - covers the loss of a partner & parent from the POV of the son & the partner, mostly the son, though.

Here's another one that hurts kinda good: Close Enough (http://web.archive.org/web/20061207174730/http://fabularasa.arithmancy.net/CloseEnough.htm/) by fabula rasa. Bonus: it has John saying no to Rodney for all the wrong/sad reasons (not because Rodney went off with someone else).

Some sad ones by Hth:
- Penitent (http://hth-the-first.livejournal.com/45563.html/) (Teyla-centric)
- and (happy prequel) The Miracle Worker (http://hth-the-first.livejournal.com/27894.html/) followed by (tissue-alert) Breathe You Deep (http://hth-the-first.livejournal.com/29379.html/) -- these last two are very well-done Rodney/Ronon.

Fics that make me cry are usually rare, so the ones that make me cry tend to be favourites tog o back to again and again. Trinity of One (http://sgabigbang.talkoncorners.net/?view=fic&id=88) by Helena K. from this years bigbang broke me, and I cried so hard, but it felt so amazing, so I recommend it. Otherwise, I always go back to Sandstorms (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=11931&warning=12) by Mithrea to sob over because poor Rodney. Both are McShep, with the first also including Teyla in the relationship (but it's more offscreen than anything else, just, yeah, it's there). Those are two that I can think of off the top of my head (and don't see here). Enjoy your cry. :)

#1. Closing Doors by [livejournal.com profile] esteefee sort of fits. John and Rodney aren't together in it, but they've been dancing around it for years, and after Brainstorm John finally snaps. The series this snippet is part of ends John/Ronon (so, upgrade for both of them!).

In Directional Theory (http://glitterati.talkoncorners.net/fiction/directionaltheory.php) by [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock John and Rodney *are* together, and then Rodney cheats on John. It ends on a John/Ronon note, but it's still a heart-breaking story. I desperately want to punch this Rodney in the face for making John so wretchedly sad.

#2: World Without End (http://bluflamingo.livejournal.com/78538.html?style=mine) by [livejournal.com profile] bluflamingo is a desperately sad John/Cam story. Earth is invaded by the Ori and the gate to Atlantis has been shut, so John is trapped.

My Father Before Me (http://telleer.livejournal.com/326670.html) by [livejournal.com profile] telleer is an incredibly sad story where John is dead and Rodney is raising a son and daughter on his own. John's absence is like a gaping hole in Rodney's heart and in the life of the whole family, and it hurts to even think about. The fact that it's also the most realistic kidfic I've ever read is a bonus. ;)

Eternity (http://kriadydragon.livejournal.com/63484.html) by [livejournal.com profile] kriadyragon is a gen story where John is traveling alone throughout the universe. It's really long, satisfying, and yes, sad.

Oooh! You putting up "Eternity" reminded me of 2 others:

"The New Frontier" (http://www.aliencorn.net/stories/new.html) by [livejournal.com profile] harriet_spy, which has John traveling on his own after the elimination of the Wraith, is told from an outside POV. It's a oneshot a bit over 12,000 words.

"Cache Ta Vie" (http://mirabile-dictu.slashcity.net/SGA/Cache.html) by [livejournal.com profile] mirabile_dictu also has John traveling on his own after he finally decides that he, too, can no longer take the current state of affairs at Atlantis. There is a sense of hope, yet hopelessness to it all that just leaves my heart aching. A short oneshot, somewhere in the range of 3,000 words.

Fading Skies (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?action=printable&textsize=0&sid=10959&chapter=all#2) is a wonderfully soul-wrenching AU that has John paralysed after crashing his helicopter, and is McShep est. rel. Always, always, always makes me cry.

A tear-jerky one I forgot until I just saw the "panic, trapped" request:
Bussaiko's a hub for the wheel'd universe (http://community.livejournal.com/mcsmooch/114370.html/). It has sequels, 2 by bussaiko, the morning's romanza (http://busaikko.slashcity.org/?p=176/) and each hour of the 24 (http://busaikko.slashcity.org/?p=178/), plus an alternative direction by telesilla, I'll Keep Your Heart With Mine (http://telesilla.livejournal.com/704200.html/).
