I'm looking for a specific sort of AU--ones where the cast, or at least part of the cast, are living normal lives on earth, except for Rodney--that is, he's still living on earth, but he's working on something not considered normal. Could be SGC, or just some personal groundbreaking project or some such. Doesn't even have to be science, could be supernatural or something--essentially the point is that his work life or strangeness effects his friendships/romance/all-around hanging out with the normal SGA people.

As a general example, Rodney meets John, the surfboard shop owner or something. They become friends (or more), then, because Rodney works with the SGC in this universe still, the Trust comes along and causes trouble! That sort of thing.

Sorry if it isn't very clear, it's the best way I could think to describe what I'm looking for.

I don't want to give any more than that away. It's a Big Bang story, so it's long, but it's fantastic. Here's the official summary: In a world without the SGC, John Sheppard never got his second chance and is ushered into early retirement. Nine months later he's working as a test pilot for the world's leading defense contractor on a groundbreaking new plane, and has just been introduced to his difficult new coworker, one Dr. Rodney McKay. Fair Trade and Möbius by esteefee has owning a coffee roastery and McKay is all science and asshole. It's great-- in Möbius Rodney's past with the SGC comes back to haunt him.

Well, except the first SG-15 AU, as they're both in SGC in that one. OK, shoot, and not the third pianist!Rodney one, either, as he's just that in that one. The other three are a match, though.
