I've decided to start a new thematic list for another one of my favorite SGA fic tropes: an Atlantis expedition that either by necessity or by choice has to fend for itself in the Pegasus galaxy.

E.g. Atlantis is on its own because Earth has been lost or is too occupied in the Milky Way, or has never (or only much later) reestablished contact in the first place, or Atlantis declares its independence, or its allegiance to one or more Pegasus cultures/alliances, or develops into a colony city in the (far) future, or the Atlantis expedition members (i.e. a large group, more than just the team) settle as a colony somewhere else in Pegasus...

So far I've listed about thirty stories, but I'm sure there must be more. If you know any not yet on my list that fit, I'd love to hear about them. The list so far is here:

SGA thematic list: Atlantis is cut off from Earth or secedes

Honey, do you have a thematic list of your thematic lists...because I am sure that would be made of win!

That is totally what I mean.

Sorry, it's late and I'm not explaining myself properly! Thanks for this though.

I'm kind-of self-pimping, and feel free to ignore me if it's not what you wanted, but I maintain a directory of Stargate lists, including all of [livejournal.com profile] ratcreature's...

http://partial-eclipse.net/sglists/

I suppose I should update it soon... along with my other two lists directories (for other fandoms).

That's great :) I've bookmarked it to add to my List of Lists site. I'll also be having a look through it for fics to read at some point. (I'm currently obsessed by Jane Austen fics, so it might be a while!)

I've actually had some things of this sort bookmarked to read, I don't know whether you've got them all... *has a quick look*

Do you have everything from here? http://delicious.com/Kirinin/independent!Atlantis

Not sure what this is as I haven't read it yet... http://community.livejournal.com/sgastoryfinders/1464676.html?style=mine

Oh, try:
http://delicious.com/search?p=atlantis+colony
http://delicious.com/search?p=sga+colony
http://community.livejournal.com/sgagenrefinders/61964.html
http://delicious.com/loriel_eris/colony

I'm not sure if any of the individual fics I have bookmarked qualify because obviously I haven't read them yet ;) But maybe you'll find some fics you haven't got on those links I assembled above?

...and I completely forgot to look through my list of fics I *had* read ;)

I *think* this one fits though it's ages since I read it...

City on the Edge of Forever (http://synecdochic.livejournal.com/126570.html) by Synecdochic
She wasn't just provisioning an expedition. There was a very good chance she was equipping a colony. Gen.

I think you already have the others I know of.

Isn't it? Well, I told you it had been a while since I read it! Lol, sorry.

I hope you do get some het recs for your list... I'm always on the look out for good Stargate het considering that the vast, vast majority of SG fics I come across are slash or (occasionally) gen.

Also because the John/Elizabeth crowd doesn't even seem to have much overlap

I've noticed that. There are a few rare het pairings that crossover just occasionally (mainly ones involving Teyla or Ronon, or v occasionally Laura/Carson) but John/Elizabeth apparently has a big fanbase and yet I never come across it :s I actually like the pairing, or the concept of it, and yet I have a sum total of one fic with it among my delicious bookmarks.

I didn't see this on your list
Tarlan's Sentience series

http://davidhewlett.tarlanx.com/fiction/viewseries.php?seriesid=9

The City is sentient & cuts them off from Earth deliberately.

Welocome!

I just remembered another one, Auburn's Up Into The Silence
http://www.eternalvox.net/~auburn/upintothesilence.html
Summary:What happens if, when we open the Stargate to Earth, the only answer is silence?

(its mirror might fit too

Rosebud (Atlantis doesn't answer)

You are made of awesome, you know that, right?

Not only do I love all your lists, but I have been searching for this very thing all week. Thank you!

Yay for another of your awesome lists! Have added it to the Local Collection of Lists just now. Wish I could recall fics to rec you, but you already have most of them, and the one you don't has already been mentioned above, so. :-)

I have Triptych (http://community.livejournal.com/sga_flashfic/561173.html) by [livejournal.com profile] mad_maudlin (oh god, I'd forgotten just how much this screws with your mind!) and Left to Fend (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=2350) by springwoof and the... sequel? prequel? (I can't remember) The Body Holographic (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=7849) by springwoof and Leah.

From what I remember The Dreaming (http://www.caffiends.net/viewstory.php?sid=424) by Kat Reitz and Tzigane is kinda colony.

Mortal I Have Ever Touch'd (The Non-Denominational Holiday Mission Report Remix) (http://community.livejournal.com/remix_redux/10611.html) by [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon is subtly colony.

I haven't read The Origin of All Things (http://iloveatlantis.livejournal.com/7719.html) by [livejournal.com profile] iloveatlantis but from looking at the summary, I don't think you can get much closer to colony!

Five Things Elizabeth Will Never Tell (http://ismenetruth.livejournal.com/13784.html) by [livejournal.com profile] ismenetruth is set in a colony!AU verse, but I can't remember how much actually deals with colony/whether you want the fic to deal with the colony-ness or whether being set in colony 'verse is enough.

And with that, I think you've exhausted my links for colony!Atlantis.

I think the very long series, "The Origin Of All Things" by chocolatephysicist, could be placed as a 'cut off from earth' story.
It can be found here (http://www.area52hkh.net/author.php?name=chocolatephysicist)
on Area52
