[identity profile] lavvyan.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] sgarecfinders
This is a community for finding stories set in a particular genre. It is of course everyone's prerogative if they like a character or not, and to look for character bashing stories here. People have been looking for non-con and kink before; I don't see how that should be allowed and character bashing shouldn't.

In other words: posts looking for character bashing fic = okay.

However, no matter how good or bad your English is, I think it should be possible to at least look up the name of the character you dislike (e.g. here) and spell it correctly. Or misspell it consistently, otherwise your request probably won't be taken very seriously.

Further, derogatory comments and/or rants about the actors and actresses in both the request post and comments will lead to deletion as soon as I notice. See first sentence of this post for the reason why and feel free to take it up with me through comment, message or email if you have issues with that.

By the way: as a non-native speaker, I'm not really amused by people making fun of someone's less than perfect English skills, so the next time you feel the need to do that? Do it in your own journals, please.

Re Post title: My thoughts exactly. *g*

That was a troll though, right? Lie to me if you have to.

I agree with all of the above, and support it wholeheartedly. (And not only just because I myself have posted a bashing fic search before. *cough*) Ditto on the not-native-speaker front - mock the intent, not the delivery. Or something. *is Grumpy McGrump*

Agreed - there are non-offensive ways to say what you mean without making the whole world want to strangle you. The English language is good that way. I don't know and care if it was a language thing or sheer insolence on the poster's part re: the names thing, but srsly, we're not in kindergarden anymore, namecalling is just not a good idea after you leave pre-school.

Wow. I missed it but thank you for stomping on it. It sounds very irritating.

I'm gonna sound like a complete softie here, but really. There was someone asking for Cadman bashing a while back, and I just skimmed the request and moved on. This chick, however? Her post made me kind of nautious with all the hatefulness she oozed. Reminded me of my cousin coming out from the ladies room at a bar all shook up, overhearing a girl tell her friend something in the line of "I hate her so much, omg, I hope she gets raped on her way home!". Scary scary people.
As another non-native speaker, I'm amazed that people don't respect TEH GRAMMER more than they do. (Uh, assuming here the aggro poster is American.) :)

Oh, see, that's why I love you, cause you take good care of us. I didn't see the post, but I'm glad it's gone. *hugs you*

Here's hoping the vitriol wasn't aimed in your direction for long.

Absolutely. I intend to use this comm beg prettily, hat in hand, for the sake of a meta post I have in the works (my very, very, very late "Flavor of the Year"). One of the themes is the Sam hate that appeared once we learned Sam was going to replace Elizabeth. Character bashing is a legitimate genre (even if said request wasn't a legitimate request).

Love the comm, and never realized you were the mod. Hi.

I missed it, but thank you for squashing it. I'm actually glad I didn't see it. My Dad is Italian so whenever I see someone poking fun at non-native speakers I get a wee bit livid. Character bashing is a legitimate genre (Just look at the Gwen-bashing in Torchwood) there just has to be a line between disliking a character and being hateful.
You are an awesome mod and I humbly take my imaginary hat off to you.

Thank you very much for being a wonderful mod! Hopefully that was the last of that sort of issue you will have.

I'm glad i missed all the wank, otherwise i think i may have gotten myself invovled when it wasn't necessary ( i have a tendency to do that).

I love this comm and i'm glad we have such a hands on mod that feels confident to deal with this sort of thing.

Merci!
