It's been a few days since we implemented the new rules and so far I'm happy that all of you have made your posts accordingly. I don't think we're asking too much and it's great to see you're all being so fantastic about interacting here. :)
That said,
imbecamiel has made a suggestion that I personally find very sensible:
The majority of searches on here are slash, but there are also quite a number that are open as to whether they want gen, slash, het, etc. or that prefer one genre (or specific pairing) but will take others.
Especially for those who are looking through old searches before making their own, it might be really helpful (and help cut down on potentially redundant searches) if you asked that, where the request is open like that, those replying with fics specify whether the fic they're reccing is slash, gen, het, etc. A few do already, but most don't.
I think that's a very good idea, so I'm going to ask you to please mention in your comments whether the story you're recommending is het, gen, slash or femmeslash if that isn't clear from the request post. The same goes for pairings: if someone's asking for, say, slash recs in general, it'd be nice of you to mention if the story you're reccing is Dex/Lorne or Beckett/Zelenka or McKay/Sheppard (and so on).
This won't be a rule I'm going to enforce; it's a request. But I do think this would make browsing the posts a lot easier for everyone, plus it takes barely any time at all.
I also want to use this opportunity to thank everyone who takes the time to dig through their bookmarks, memories, tags, rec lists or simply favourite journals to make recommendations and help find more stories for the genres people are looking for. Thank you! You're amazing!
Any comments/suggestions to this post and the rules in general are always welcome.

Date: 2008-04-25 09:34 pm (UTC)Also, maybe 25% of new posts are tagged, the rest is still all me. Still, it's progress; so far there were less than 5% with any kinds of tags in average. Oh, and did I mention that the other potential-mod has resigned from the running, so it's just you and me for now? I thought I had forgotten that tid-bit. >.<

Date: 2008-04-25 11:20 pm (UTC)Frankly, this is one rare layout that is both dark and readable, for me at least, but now it appears it'll have to go.
I have no idea how I'll swing all the CSS-ing required, but what the heck. Off-white background with almost-black letter will be good, right?
*scratches head* And just when I was rejoicing in finding a way to remove the stupid calendar, too. Pooey.

Date: 2008-04-26 12:01 am (UTC)Anyways, I will give my tweeked CSS a try tomorrow evening, as it's way past my bedtime now, and the stupid lj CSS is just ticking me off now.
A new layout would be a much simpler solution. I will look into those tomorrow, as well.
