Heartbreak

[identity profile] hestia-lacey.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] sgarecfinders

I'm looking for something to break my heart. Shatter it into teensy, tiny little pieces. I mean really, sobbing into the keyboard, concerned neighbours here.

McShep would rock, but I'm open to John or Rodney centric gen too. Anything goes, in terms of rating and length.

make sure that you've got a towel to sob in, a box of tissues won't be enough.

Two by Pru: Share (http://glitterati.talkoncorners.net/fiction/share.html) and Directional Theory (http://glitterati.talkoncorners.net/fiction/directionaltheory.html). The first isn't really a tear-jerker, but it quietly breaks my heart and leaves me unable to think about anything else for the rest of the night every single time I read it. The second's more straightforward pain.

[livejournal.com profile] sardonicsmiley just posted an awesome, really f-up Rodney-centric (with McShep-ish tendencies) fic that will definitely take the sime off your face (in an excellent way): Not the Fine Man You Take Me For (http://sardonicsmiley.livejournal.com/54190.html).

Another fave is the McShep Close Enough (http://web.archive.org/web/20061214062401/http://fabularasa.arithmancy.net/CloseEnough.htm) by [livejournal.com profile] fabularasa; don't be fooled by it's angsty/smutty awesomeness, you *will* be needing that box of tissues.

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] debris_k, [livejournal.com profile] sardonicsmiley likes to make us hurt. Dirge (http://sardonicsmiley.livejournal.com/53113.html) and Faith (http://sardonicsmiley.livejournal.com/39652.html) are both chock full of pain. Rodney pain.

[livejournal.com profile] dancinbutterfly's Invisble Prisoner (http://dancinbutterfly.livejournal.com/103384.html) is John-centric, and it killed me. It's the one where John's a prisoner and no one notices.

You're probably familiar with most (if not all) of these, but it doesn't hurt to be reminded. ;) These are more gut-punches than tear-jerkers though. At least that's the way they made me feel. Oh, and they're all McKay/Sheppard unless stated otherwise.

Oddly, I only have one fic that's I've tagged with "sad." Although, I have 100's of fics tagged "angst." *shrugs* So I hope you enjoy it and that it makes you feel better.

OMG! - saddest thing ever - Tofts's All These Places We Have Met (http://community.livejournal.com/sga_flashfic/565739.html) - made her betas cry! and I cry every time I re-read. ALSO: (totally FTW) thingswithwings did podfic (http://community.livejournal.com/sgapodfic/56026.html) of it, which is just OMG! the john-angst is insane - you can hear his panic in her voice - and Rodney's desperation. sad liek whoa.

I totally concur. I just listened to thingswithwings' podfic of this, and-- WOW. And-- OUCH. I was just sobbing at the end. SO GOOD.

The awesome 'Back from the Well' (http://xanthestories.livejournal.com/2188.html) by [livejournal.com profile] xanthelj (McKay/Sheppard/Beckett)

Author's summary: Atlantis has been invaded and her people sold to work as slaves.

Extract: "I just want it back to how it was before. You, me, John... nothing good like that ever happened to me before and it's all falling apart. I can't look at Radek without remembering the plantation and being thrown down against that bloody well and, and.. and you're walking around with the weight of the entire galaxy on your shoulders and John... John isn't John at all! There are some things you can't just tidy up, Carson."

Two more (if you can take it?):

"Hands away" by Mandy's bitch. I warn you, I had to promise myself never to re-read it, and I normally love heartbreaking stories.

"Like no other child" by Cottontail. http://cottontail.livejournal.com/85046.html

I tried to do pretty links, but I'm old and internet hates me. Sorry!

These aren't McShep, but they totally rock. If you're looking for heart-shattering fics, these always do it for me:

Stuck! by Kolyaaa (Rodney is turned into a child. Teyla is turned elderly. Much angst mixed with bits of humor... which makes the angst all that more angsty. There's a part where Rodney goes missing and Sheppard and Carson find him.... and then... well, I won't spoil it for you. Suffice it to say "Gah!") http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2652996/1/

Little Man Sheppard by Stealth Dragon (Sheppard is turned into a child. Five years old but with emerging memories of a soldier... a soldier who's killed and who's watched friends die. Parts bring me to tears *every single time*.) http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2652996/1/

And if the whole Sunday thing makes you sob, there's Home by... well, er, me. :0) http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3880861/1/Home
