I, in my modly capacity, think it's high time this community had a concise list of all the SGA fanfic theme and genre recs, lists and collections out there; to make searches easier for everyone, posters and commenters alike.

You are asked to submit your favorite or most often used posts, pages, lists and/or sites which sort SGA stories by theme or genre. Share the goodness! :-)

I will sort the submitted links by genre in a separate post, which will be linked on the community's side bar and profile page.

How it works:

- self-pimps, recs, web sites, personal posts off and on lj, web pages and del.icio.us accounts and/or tags are all welcome

- for the post/page/site/list to qualify, it needs to have a decent number of linked stories of one or more specific or general genre

- when submitting a link, please make sure to provide: a name or title of the page, a direct URL, a description detailing all the genres of recs/lists found therein, and the name of the person(s) or group/community it should be credited to

Important: when submitting a link to a post/page/site/list which contains multiple genre recs/lists, if possible try to provide a link to each genre separately; if not, make sure you mention every genre found there, or provide an explanatory short description

Examples:

Crossroads: Stargate Atlantis Slash Index, contains many fanfic genres in tags, all slash, many various pairings [temporarily offline]

SGA Fairy Tale Fic Recs: contains recs of mostly McShep, fairy tale fanfics, slash and the occasional gen, in two posts - part one and part two (collected by yours truly)

The Sentient!Atlantis Fanfic Collection: contains a collection of sentient!Atlantis fanfics, slash, gen and het, various pairings, available on lj in the Big Darn Table form, and off lj as a free 'blog The Sentient!Atlantis Fics Weblog and hosted on private server The Sentient!Atlantis Fanfics 'blog (collected and maintained by yours truly)

ultimateficarchiver's del.icio.us account, specifically the sga tag (although not all SGA stories might be tagged accordingly): many varied genres and pairings, slash, het and gen, large number of stories (a personal favorite for finding fics for reccing)

May I suggest that people avoid reccing locked stories? Or at least mention somewhere that the link goes to a locked post/page and if there's an alternative, unlocked post/page?

This seems to work fairly well for crack_broom:

8. Locked or Password-Protected Fiction or Artwork
While fliers may rec locked or password-protected fiction or artwork ... Prior to reccing something that may be locked or password-protected, please make every effort to find a link that is NOT restricted to public access. Additionally, fliers may not link to fiction or art that is locked in a personal journal at any time. Locked communities are acceptable as long as it is a fairly easy, straightforward process for an interested party to be given access. The same goes for archives and sites off of LJ.

Are you suggesting that you can't point out link lists that may contain f-locked links? I think that is a practical problem when people answer a request with general link to a tag in their del.icio.us account, for example. I mean, for my own reference I bookmark every story I read regardless of its privacy status because it is my reading log. Also quite frequently things get locked that were once unlocked.

With my regular rec pages and thematic lists I only link to public things and remove links if their status changed when I get around to it, though maintenance may be time lagged, but I'm not about to go through 2000+ del.icio.us bookmarks and frequently test their privacy status before I point someone who has a genre request here that fits one of my tags or tag combinations to those. If such a rule were implemented in this community I couldn't link to my bookmarks anymore from this community.

Just noticed this was about locked stories, not locked rec/lists posts. Anyways, I can't really influence what folks link in their lists, as long as the lists themselves are accessible - you're right, it would be too much work to double check all those links.

So, my answer should've been - as long as the list is accessible, I can't really care about the type of linkage is has.

Correction, as I just noticed you were talking about stories, not list or such posts - as long as the linked thematic post is accessible it's good; the details of individual links founf therein are beyond my reach.
