Theme: Protector

I need some feel good fic :)
not that I need happy!fic for that. Even fics where everybody dies can sometimes make feel really good in a round about way.

I'm looking for a story where one character is protecting the other.
Can be the usual military-geek dynamic. Or a role reversal where the military guy is injured and it's up the geek to take care of them.
Or a group of them responsible for the lives of some villagers or something.

Gen and slash are make my day, but I'm not totally averse to het either.
No humor fics, please. I mean, they can be funny, but also "serious".

The need to protect should be (one of) the focal point(s), not just a thing mentioned in passing.
(also acceptable: anything from the protectee's POV. And 'protect' can be applied loosely. Say, something where the goons realize just how much they owe their lives to the geeks. It's the emotion I'm after, not the particulars).


If somebody could tell me just what the hell I should tag this entry with, that would be swell.

Also remembered another similar one: Three Times Rodney McKay had a Superpower; One Time He Was Just a Hero (http://sardonicsmiley.livejournal.com/27051.html) by sardonicsmiley.

Yet another one, in which the team is captured and Rodney breaks them out but stays behind remains elusive for now... I will find it, darn it, it's one of those well-known fics, just a matter of my brain kicking into gear...

Running on Empty (http://friendshipper.laylalawlor.com/running.shtml) by friendshipper is a great gen fic with McKay & Sheppard captured by the wraith and then released on a planet as runners. Lots of protection here including McKay protecting children. *g*

The "Guides" series by likethekoschka is one of my very favorite, most adored series of all time. Major H/C, but with very protective instincts on both sides, this series doesn't get recced anywhere nearly enough IMHO.

There are 12 stories in the series so far (a new one was just published a week ago! and I missed it! :gasp:) and they're all long, so be sure to sort by date published and start at the beginning. And if you really like it and want to see where it started, there's an entire gen series, "Geeks and Goons" that prefaces the slash, so... it really just reads like the world's longest bit of UST.

:sigh: I love this series.
