So, is there anything out there with significant Rodney whump -- that actually deals with the recovery? To be honest, I don't care how much detail is attributed to the actual trauma - if at all -- I'm just looking for something that deals with McKay recovering from something traumatic. Preferably rape, but any well-written trauma will do.

Also, I am not into magical healing cock, nor a world where everyone is suddenly gay -- or where everyone is strictly hetro, for that matter -- because it seems the really well fics I have found have centred around everyone being attracted to their own gender and BDSM; thats something I'm just not into - I don't care who is, I have had the world explained to me numerous times, and I respect it, it's just something that I can't get into.

So, going off that, any recs?

My go-to fic for what you describe is Sandstorms by Mithreon (http://wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=11931&warning=12). There is a het relationship between Rodney and an alien woman, but mostly it's about Rodney and Shephard, their falling out after Doranda, Rodney's capture and torture by aliens, and the aftermath. Pretty graphic, but a great story.

Cheers mate -- I have read that one before, and although wonderfully written, something just just doesn't sit right. I mean, it's completely plausible, the writing is exquisite and the emotional responses are fantastic... actually, the more I say about it, the more I respect the fic and the author...

I think I am going to have to read it again, but I can't even remember why I didn't like it to begin with. I think, maybe it was that a relationship developed post a sexual assault, but then again, life is messy and just because my reaction to rape was complete sexual aversion (don't worry, it was a long time ago - I'm not looking for sympathy, just trying to explain my reactions :P ), it's not always the case - that hyper-sexuality is common, as it seeking out situations were you can maintain control.

Yeah, gonna have to read it again :P

This is basically gen. There is some pining for John by Rodney, but it isn't obnoxious and the story is not McShep. Strong friendship. Not rape/non-con as I try not to read those, but Rodney is seriously injured and has a long road to recovery. Not to the level of torment of Sandstorms, but you might give it a try. This is an old story, and a long one (nearly 200K words) but it's well-written, with spot-on characterizations of McKay, Sheppard, and Beckett, with appearances by Carter, Teyla, Zelenka, and others, as well as a few original characters that work well.
