Rodney doesn't fall head over heels for John right off the bat McShep

Hey guys!!

I'm looking for Rodney-centered stories that are McShep where Rodney doesn't fall instantly for John. I've read a lot of stories where it's lust/love/attraction at first sight, or where they get together after knowing each other for a few days or weeks. I'm looking for stories where it's not like that. Where Rodney may not even notice John exists or they may not like each other, or not get along or they start off maybe working together or running into each other every once in a while and then they maybe become friends and it goes from there. Basically, I don't want stories where their getting together is fast but where it takes a while for it to happen or where Rodney doesn't fall, or isn't too charmed by John. I want stories where their relationship takes time, maybe has misunderstandings, before they get together. It can be any genre: fantasy, sci-fi, canon, AU, crossovers and/or fusions, canon, canon AU, supernatural, domestic, harlequin, etc. It can take place anywhere just as long as it's well-written, in character and has a good plot. The only things I'm not really into is porn (where there is no plot, just sex), BDSM, or sex/power games.

Can anyone rec me some fics?

Like Running Through Water by seperis. As far as McKay was concerned, John was a really nifty remote control for Ancient toys. It would have been offensive if John had tried to be anything else. Pre-slash, pre-series through second season.

There is a dearth of long build-ups in fandom, isn't there? Some of these, the conflicts are resolved pretty quickly, but I guess at least they're conflicts ;)
