John - always John!

So.  Back again.

I read an excellent story recently about John being an ace military leader and doing all sorts of military stuff.  It was a gen and I much prefer McShep, but hey, I take what I can.  (An aside here, tere is an excellent moment in KM's Ties That Bind when J & R return to Atlantis and Bates (I think) shouts out "Alpha one in room" and all the military turn and salute or something.  Such a hot moment) 

Anyway.

I would like to request any John (pref McShep) stories where he is shown to be really The Man.  I have searched the Miltary tag but is there anything else, possibly newer out there?  Pretty please?

[sighs.  John in uniform.  With dog tags.  Shouting out orders.  Mmmmmm]

I'm aware of both meanings, but there are some very good fics, both gen and McShep, in which John is asexual and a kickass military commander *g*

Hi people and thanks for your replies.

Firstly, I'll try to remember what the gen story I read was. I'll post a link when I do.

Secondly (and thirdly I think). I'm a Brit and we use words differently to Americans. Ace means really good (as dajaje pointed out). I still struggle with the US use of 'momentarily'! :) Especially in the context of landing aeroplanes! ;)

And thank you for Retrograde. It is an excellent series and I will revisit it.

And John as an asexual? Okay, I'll give it a try. Thanks for your suggestion. Can you recommend any?

I want to recommend Transcendental by Shallot for this, but a quick skim reread suggests that it's more McKay being awesome and in charge rather than John. It is heavy on the action, so you might still enjoy it???
