Concussions have consequences
Jul. 10th, 2012 12:35 pmI'm having a spate of being really irritated at how easily people on TV and in stories get over concussions, especially repeated ones. So I want stories where concussions have *realistic* consequences, for weeks or months or permanently.
And in case anyone wants fic inspiration: while googling for info, I found this article:

In some instances, the concussed can feel very much like he's on another planet. The sky itself can change to colors the sky shouldn't be at a particular time.Gen, McShep, other pairings -- except no Sheppard/Mitchell, please, they're my personal squick (it's not you, it's me).
"This color obviously isn't going to be blue. It can be a color that can be orange. It can be red. The sky could turn green,"

Date: 2012-07-10 07:19 pm (UTC)The Edge of the Bridge (http://jimandblair.livejournal.com/69272.html#cutid1) is gen; it's more than a concussion, but the severity of the injury is definitely there.
Flip Side (http://aries-taurus.livejournal.com/3549.html#cutid1) is the first fic I thought of when I saw this request; it's also gen.
The Days After (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4648429/1/The_Days_After) is a post-Prodigal genfic; it may not be quite as exact as you're looking for, but it does deal with the aftereffects of a head injury.
Hopefully those are sort of what you're looking for!

Date: 2012-07-10 08:11 pm (UTC)P.S. I forgot to mention we also have a rule about editorializing, because reasons for why's and why-not's are best kept for places where personal opinions, and not fic recs, are the main topic. :-)

Date: 2012-08-02 03:09 pm (UTC)I also wasn't sure how to edit to avoid "editorializing" -- people seem to include mood info ("I'm really sad, so I'd like happyfic") and that's how my intro seemed to me. I was by *no means* talking only about SGA.
If you'd like me to give editing a crack, please reply. I do not argue with the one-month suspension.

Date: 2012-08-02 03:33 pm (UTC)Avoiding editorializing is not that complex either; we do allow, as you mentioned, short occurrences which don't invite (or can be seen to do so) discussions because it would be exhausting for everyone involved to police every word of every post. But when asked to make your post more to the point we ask just that: pick out the parts relevant for folks to know what to rec you i.e. what you're asking for re: fic recs, and try to cut short(er) the how's and why's of the background of your search. It's not a case of 'just the search or we will delete your post!', just a reminder that more to the point in your post is more to the point of the comm in the first place. :-)
Hope that clears things up a bit. Feel free to let me know if not, either here or at the Contact-a-Mod (http://community.livejournal.com/sgagenrefinders/758514.html?mode=reply) post.
