There, he is given a slave as a gift he cannot refuse, who has a strange device around his neck, an impaired ability to talk, and no memory of his past.

The Long Engagement by omg_wtf_yeah: Steampunk!Atlantis AU. John is the leader of the Sheppard Circus Company. Lost in their travels, the troupe happens on the hidden city of Atlantis where McKay is the mistrustful leader of the Lanteans. McKay makes an agreement with the troupe wherein they'll stay on in the city and perform a number of shows. He also asks John for his adopted sister, Jennifer Keller's, hand in marriage. When John refuses to give them his blessing, Rodney proposes that the only way to change his mind is to get to know each other better. But as the two men become close, Rodney begins to question if marrying Jennifer is what he really wants or if what he wants could be something totally unexpected.

McKay, smartest man in two galaxies, is the inventor of the first Patented Completely Portable Personal Computing Machine. And yet, things are strangely familiar.

The Great Doctor McKay by me_ya_ri: Rodney is kidnapped, mistakenly thought dead, and has to travel across a continent on foot to get to a stargate and back to Atlantis. Along the way he helps people fix things and acquires a 'magic' coat, a sonic screwdriver and a legendary reputation as The Great Doctor McKay.
