Hey guys,
I was hoping if you could rec me some stories where for one reason or another John leaves Atlantis, and then things start falling apart so SGC and friends have to bring him back to fix because he was better at his job then they thought. I appreciate anything you give me, thanks for your time!

Due to injury Sheppard leaves the air force and return on earth....toward the end he goes back to Atlantis to reactivate it...it's a gen story full of angst

I'm not sure how well these will work for you or even, really, fit your request, but they're both stories where John left Atlantis & had to return there to handle emergencies. (Warnings for character deaths in both -- keep the kleenex handy.)

This one is something I read early enough that when I went looking for my rec, written in 2007, it mentioned that I'd read it much earlier: Something More (http://seperis.illuminatedtext.com/sga/somethingmore.html) by Seperis: John's hiding out on a Mexican Beach, and Rodney shows up one day with intent.
