Parallel universe, character missing

One of the requests below resulted in this rec:

This has got me craving something very specific: stories with visits to/from parallel universes where a character meets someone who doesn't exist in their world.  Even better if they then try to locate that person in their universe.

I'm not looking for original characters - I'm looking for something like visitors from a parallel universe arriving in Atlantis, asking for Sumner and not knowing who Shepard is because their Shepard was killed in Afghanistan.  Or a Rodney visiting our universe, meeting Carter, then going back to his universe and trying to find her.

Leah's SGA Secret Santa Fic "Beasts of War and Burden" is a double AU, where an AU crew from the *Dedalus* meets an AU expedition of SGA, and in one Jeanie is alive and Rodney is dead, and in the other Rodney is dean and Jeanie is alive. And oh yeah, Rodney is a dragon.

It's really, really cool and might be what you're looking for.

John, Rodney, and Sam are trying to get off a Goa'uld-conquered Earth, and meet the local Other Carter. Who then tries to find her/the Other Sheppard etc. (Gen, ~12,400 words total.)

Tied Up Inside (http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/41720.html) by gblvr (~8000 words, McShep) features a John who gets temporarily stuck on an Atlantis that never had their Sheppard. Among other people.

the Criss-Cross series (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewseries.php?seriesid=156) by quasar. (McShep and other pairings, ~174,000 words total, crossover with The Sentinel) One John crosses over into another's universe.

This one is a snippet more than a full fic, but I loved the concept: the first ficlet in "four abandoned snippets" (http://seperis.livejournal.com/288930.html) by seperis, a funkily created alternate timeline in which especially Rodney and a John who doesn't remember knowing him are not-quite-successfully brainwashed into thinking there never was an Atlantis.
