I am looking for fics where Earth-based religion is involved. It can be someone's actual beliefs, compared to an alien culture, or just a mention of there being services held on Atlantis or a chaplain available to the expedition.

Even though I wrote it during the summer of 2009, I shudder to think of how bad a future I envisioned for the USA pertaining to fundamentalist religious extremism (and how it would ultimately affect not only the location of the Stargate, but also the role of religion and its effects on the SGC, IOA and Atlantis). [Current events are not making me feel optimistic, even if there's no Stargate in our reality. ::wibbles::]
Besides the bad-kind-of-religion I invented, there were also new more positive groups that were formed (after declassification where the old-timers couldn't grasp the concept of Ancients, Aliens and an Earth older than a few thousand years). One of these groups came to Pegasus and became very important in the life of one of my fave characters (but I won't spoiler you either). I provide a bit of the philosophy behind the new group and they are involved in helping this person transition through death.
The entire fic has McShep at its core (with Teyla integral in an unusual familial way), but also covers many of my fave canon characters, along with OCs here and there.
