 So the lovely people at SGA Storyfinders (who are probably a lot of the same lovely people who are here) just found me Go Out Swinging and I remembered how much I love it. My favorite part is John, I just LOVE the way he's characterized. So I know this is going to be kind of difficult but does anyone know of any other McShep stories where John is like that? I guess my favorite part is just how cool and sexy he is, how he's obviously hurt be Rodney wanting to still date Jennifer but he just keeps having sex with him until he gets it :)

Hmmm, tricky but interesting request.
I like John's coolness and certainty about wanting Rodney in astolat and speranza's classic Ordinary Life (http://www.intimations.org/fanfic/stargate/Ordinary%20Life.html). (and of course John channeling James Bond will never not be hot.) ~20,100 words

John's really quite uncertain about wanting Rodney in astolat's Oblivious (http://www.intimations.org/fanfic/stargate/Oblivious.html) but how he gives into it pings for me as cool characterization. ~8200 words

In fact, SGA fics by speranza (http://www.trickster.org/speranza/cesper/atlantis.html), by astolat (http://www.intimations.org/fanfic/#Stargate: Atlantis), by resonant (http://www.trickster.org/res/#sga), and by rageprufrock (http://glitterati.talkoncorners.net/fiction/#sga) all often seem to have a lot of cool-sexy Sheppard (even if occasionally akward) going on.

Sheppard's Law of Martyrdom (http://pir8fancier.livejournal.com/417742.html) (~15,000 words) and Damned If You Do, and Damned If You Don't (http://archiveofourown.org/works/25872) (~20,500 words) -- as well as perhaps Earth-AU Head of the Class (http://pir8fancier.dreamwidth.org/26538.html) (~20,200 words) -- all by pir8fancier might do it for you.

Or, just a thought, if general characterization with McShep ending is not quite what you're looking for with this request, maybe you'd want to edit your request to clarify whether you're more interested in really-oblivious!Rodney/determined-yet-cool!John stories independent of canon timeline, or instead in more Rodney/Jennifer stories with pining!John and a happy McShep ending? :)

I like pir8fancier's works a lot, and if you're interested in a sort-of-though-not-quite inversion of what your search said, Last Man Reshuffle (http://archiveofourown.org/works/28026) (one of my favorite SGA fics) has one John getting a close look at the life of another John -- who decided to pursue Rodney and got him. (~20,000 words)

If you want a cool and determined John winning Rodney over Jennifer, definitely check out Worth Fighting For (http://community.livejournal.com/mckay_sheppard/2424334.html) by velocitygrass. I especially like this one because it's a slight AU in which DADT was repealed and John felt he could be open about his interest in Rodney before Rodney and Jennifer got together, so Rodney makes a fully informed choice between them.

Hmm, before I dive in, I want to make sure that I'm not grabbing the wrong end of the stick. Because I love fic (like Go Out Swinging and Convenience) that has McKay/Keller but ends McKay/Sheppard. However, most of it does not portray John as zen as he is in Go Out Swinging — he's usually hurting and awkward and not already sleeping with Rodney. Would these interest you, or is "cool" (as in patient and indulgent) really the operative word, here?

Hmm I guess you're right that he isn't really zen in any of those. That's a good word for it I guess, "zen". Also I love it when they're already in a relationship but I wasn't sure how many other fics would have that.

I guess I was really looking for fic where they are already in a relationship and yet Rodney still wants Keller, for some reason. But then he gets a clue, I prefer happy fic.
