I have just been re-reading the gorgeous 'Accidentally In Love' by Tiger Lady
( http://www.shetiger.com/fanfic/stargate/accidentally.html)

Followed by reading the lovely 'Things to Do In Denver When You're Dead' by Speranza
(http://www.trickster.org/speranza/cesper/Denver.html)

And now I really want to find more stories where Rodney and John get together slowly, with nice dates and maybe a bit of emotional misdirection and a little angst.  You know, the slow build, chocolate boxes and roses, 'will they or wont they?'.  As opposed to the ever popular 'Oh?  You like me?!  Quick, trousers off and get on the bed!" (not that I'm knocking 'trousers off and get on the bed!', but you know, variety is nice too. :))

Longing and yearning are a definite plus.

Total AU's are deffinitely welcome.

Any rating.

In other words, bring the schmoop.

"The Neighborly Detective and the Tragic Woobie Widower" by Master Elayna will do. AU in which Rodney is the Tragic Woobie Widower, complete with cute kid (I don't usually like kid fics, but I do like this one...oh, yes, and "101 Ways to Get Lucky (in Love)" by Scribblin' Lenore works, too, and is also good kidfic AU. Don't have a link.)

Both are NC-17

ETA: Fixed the link, gave a rating.

I just read "Strangers on a Six Train" and totally loved it. It's an AU in New York.
Strangers on a Six Train (http://eye-queue.livejournal.com/680.html)

And then of course there's "Junk Cheap" by [livejournal.com profile] devildoll, which I hope everyone's already read. Another humorous AU. Junk Cheap! (http://devildoll.livejournal.com/751627.html)

Oh, thank you so much for reccing "Strangers on a Six Train"--I'd never read it before, and loved it completely.

("Junk Cheap" is already one of my favorites!)

You're welcome! I love "Strangers" so much--it's now one of my absolute favs. (Props to [livejournal.com profile] kormantic for recommending it to me in this rec thread (http://kormantic.livejournal.com/182454.html).)

If AUs are OK, you might also like The Spare (http://mediafans.org/rachael/sga/atlantis_thespare.html) by [livejournal.com profile] wickedwords, in which prince-ly!John and scientist!Rodney have an arranged marriage to bring peace to their two countries, and the consumation takes some time to accomplish (on John's part, who's pretty willing for a trophy husband). It's nice and romantic, and an excellent read.

The other is a regency Harlequin-ish AU, A Dangerous Desire or McKay Makes a Match (http://janne-d.livejournal.com/32547.html) by [livejournal.com profile] janne_d, in which John saves Rodney from being kindnapped - wait, no, Rodney saves himself, punching John out in the process... They flirt in very regency fashion, and there's falling in love, angst and the like, plus a very nice and satisfying Harlequin-style happy end.

Also, a contemporary AU, in which stuff happens, and happens, before they jump into bed/being together for good: Push/Pull (http://jane-elliot.livejournal.com/29386.html) by [livejournal.com profile] jane_elliot. Summary: homeless!John AU

Wait, you want more? Fine. Rodney was having the worst day of his life even before he accidentally ran over a mysterious homeless man with his car. Now he finds himself without a job, with a new roomate, and with one burning question: Who is the enigmatic John Sheppard?

On Life and Living (http://home.comcast.net/~wesleysgirl/fanfiction/sga/life.html) by [livejournal.com profile] wesleysgirl is my favorite SGA AU. (And since you know the quality of the AUs in this fandom, that's saying something). It's the one where John is a widower and Rodney is (basically) himself. It's lovely, and there are sequels. And she's currently writing another one for [livejournal.com profile] fire_fic! *jumps up and down*

How do you feel about high school AUs? Or movie remixes? The Best Things in Life Are Free (http://www.offpanel.net/smittywing/stories/tbtilaf.html) by [livejournal.com profile] smittywing is absolutely brilliant. It's the one where John is the cool kid from "Can't Buy Me Love," and Rodney is the geek who bribes John to hang out with him. So good, and there are some wonderful Rodney & Jeannie moments.

But Wait, There's More (http://community.livejournal.com/anotheratlantis/7331.html) by [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan is great, and not nearly as silly as the premise sounds. It's the one where John is the Home Shopping host who helps inventor!Rodney sell his gadgets on TV. There's a follow-up, too, written due to popular demand.

*looks at the list of fics that have been recced to you* Damn, we have awesome AUs in this fandom!

Thought of two more. Actually, I've recced these before, but I love them enough to keep mentioning them.

[livejournal.com profile] astolat's amazing Time in a Bottle (http://www.intimations.org/fanfic/stargate/time_in_a_bottle.html) is an excellent fic with a slow build. It's the one where John and Rodney get stuck in a virtual environment. You may have already read it, as it is much loved, but it never hurts to rec it again.

Cleave (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=8018) by [livejournal.com profile] amireal is really touching. It's the one where people with the ATA gene develop a brand new allergy.

I'll warn you now, I may come back and stalk this post some more when I think of other stories.

You're going to get sick of me eventually, because I don't bookmark anything, so it's all a matter of fics popping into my head. I'm assuming you've read A Beautiful Lifetime Event (http://www.intimations.org/fanfic/stargate/lifetime_event.html) by [livejournal.com profile] astolat and A Farm in Iowa (http://sheafrotherdon.livejournal.com/105567.html) by [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon, just because everyone on the planet seems to have read them. Two other stories that recently occurred to me:

Looking for Lamour (http://trinityofone.livejournal.com/40661.html) by [livejournal.com profile] trinityofone is a roadtrip fic. It's the one where they drive Route 66 and John slowly figures things out. John's POV really works for me in this one.

Slow and Steady (http://kellifer-fic.livejournal.com/32413.html) by [livejournal.com profile] kellifer_fic has one of my personal favorite things: a Rodney who is neither oblivious nor socially incompetent. It's the one where John doesn't touch anyone.

Isn't it good? There's a reason most everyone on the planet has read it. :o) [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon raised a phenomenal amount of money for [livejournal.com profile] fire_fic by promising to write another part, so there will probably be an addition soon after you finish the current parts. *rubs hands greedily*

I have issues with a lot of kid!fic myself, but some stories overcome that.

I love 101 Ways to Get Lucky (In Love)! Although I'll admit, I get embarrassed on behalf of fictional people really easily, so when I re-read it, I tend to skip over the beginning, when Rondey is being horrible to his staff. It took me months to read Bell Curve, or Ladies Night at the Boom Boom Room (http://glitterati.talkoncorners.net/fiction/bellcurve/bellcurve.html) by rageprufrock, because I had to keep covering my face or clicking over to another screen when I got embarrassed for Rodney. And that's a great fic, recced far and wide. If you haven't read it yet, it's the one where John is a bartender/occasional stripper, and then he's Rodney's TA. Despite her habit of embarrassing me, Pru's descriptions just knock me dead every single time.

As I'm sure you've discovered if you went over there, [livejournal.com profile] fire_fic is a community created to raise money for the victims of a house fire. I am so in love with fandom for the generosity people have shown. It's amazing.
