I've recently reread The Journey Home (Both John's Story and Rodney's Story versions) and for the first time Taco Night in the Crystal City. They both have Rodney using what he learned in Atlantis to revolutionize various fields (in one case to help make an AI house and a new power source and in the other to completely change the world with crystal based computer chips and destroy the SGC) Anyway, while both took it in different directions and were done for different reasons, I liked the idea of him stepping away from the SGC for whatever reason and then taking what he knew (whether he had signed non-compete/non-disclosure or not) and actually changing the world. I also really like that in the Taco Night, he did it because of what the SGC did to John and really undermined them, but that aspect isn't necessary. I'm a big McShep fan, but again, that isn't necessary. It also doesn't have to be Rodney, though I prefer Sheppard or McKay centered fics.

Are there any other stories out there like this?

Thanks.

Wops, I forgot it wasn't one long fic. There was a 10+ years sequel written:

This part features Rodney dealing with issues with the SGC more than the first, but I don't think it can be read without reading the first part.

Could I have the links to the two versions of the Journey Home? Please and thank you. And thanks for the link to Taco Night in the Crystal City, what a great tale. I love this fandom....

These aren't quite that drastic, in terms of Rodney changing the world, but maybe they'll go a little way towards the itch:

Less to Say (http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/37835.html) (McShep, 5k) doesn't get quite that far, but it suggests that kind of future and separation from the SGC.

And Glory Has No End, or Clementine (http://rinsbane.livejournal.com/64192.html) (McShep, 27k) has the expedition recalled due to lack of power and Rodney making vast leaps of physics (on his own, not with the SGC) to find a way back.

This one sort of fits: A Sonnet for Robert Oppenheimer (http://gaiaanarchy.livejournal.com/14294.html) by [livejournal.com profile] gaiaanarchy. AU from Trinity -- when Rodney gets Project Arcturus to work it changes everything, including Earth technology. Contains: background pairings, eventual character death. Bonus remix: A Requiem for Leo Szilard (http://valderys.livejournal.com/14150.html) by [livejournal.com profile] valderys

There's also auburn's classic McShep (also contains other pairings including noncon) slavefic, In the City of Seven Walls (http://www.eternalvox.net/auburn/citysevenindex.html) in which, after leaving Atlantis/the SGC/Earth society, Rodney (as a small subplot) eventually figures out how to make ZPMs (among other things) and slightly snarkily sends one to the SGC as an "I figured it out, nyah nyah nyah" gift with slightly obscure manufacturing instructions. (~171,000 words)

In Mrs. Hammill's Pegasus Purgatorio (http://sgabigbang.talkoncorners.net/?view=fic&id=90) series John and Rodney get stranded in Pegasus after the fall of Atlantis and eventually show up on Earth with tech-toys way ahead of what's being used on Earth/at the SGC. (McShep and other pairings, ~114,700 words)

This one has the set up but stops before the revenge.

I live in hope that a sequel will be written 1 day.
