Penguin fic

I was thinking about another fic that I've forgotten what is now. It was a John/Cam (as humans) where is was mentioned that the only gift John had ever given Cam was a rock, and John explained it as penguins give each other rocks. I'm not looking for this fic, it just made me think, one, where did the penguin thing come from because I've seen it in passing around in reference to John, and two, are there any fics around that have John and anything to do with penguins as a feature in them? I'm not picky about pairing (or not having a pairing), although I do prefer slash, and hate death fics.
