I'm in a dark mood and therefore am looking for Dark toned John/Rodney fic. I'm very open on what causes this darkness. It can come from the characters or relationship itself or it can be the world around them. If it is the second I'd like it if the world building is well done.

The only thing I DON'T want is heavy drug addition. That bothers me. Anything else is fair game. Seriously. :D

I actually DO prefer happy endings, but in this case if it doesn't that is ok. Just warn me if isn't.

And while I'm at it, any other good recs you have with well done world building (light or dark) would be great. :D

Thank you so much ahead of time.

I found By Whirlwind Scattered extremely creepy, in that it bothered me for days.

Agree! (And let's not even talk about John, When He's Gone, which creeped me out enough that I can't link to it.)

Crimes Against Humanity, http://seperis.illuminatedtext.com/sga/humanity.html -- the one where they're all war criminals, literally. The main story is unfinished but it's very long as is and has enough in it and the side stories to see the shape of it all. And considering they're psychopaths the McShep is oddly sweet.

Some spontaneous recs for good fantasy world building:

A Clear and Different Light (http://sgabigbang.talkoncorners.net/?view=fic&id=53)
The Bearskin Cloak (http://archiveofourown.org/works/117992/chapters/164987)
- both light with dark elements, or neutral with creepy villains; something like that.
The Sacrificial Mage (http://www.alyse.info/sesa_files/TheSacrificialMage.htm)
Damper (http://michelel72.dreamwidth.org/2405.html)
- both neutral with less creepy villains.
Hell, Rising From a Thousand Thrones (http://10leaguesbeyond.livejournal.com/14916.html) - Lovecraft crossover and therefore dark.

For world building,

This Tardiest Explorer by mirabile-dictu (http://mirabile-dictu.slashcity.net/SGA/Tardiest.html)

The White Island by mirabile-dictu (http://mirabile-dictu.slashcity.net/SGA/Island.html)

but the nights are better(out here)by auburn (http://www.eternalvox.net/auburn/butthenights.html)

This is only the tip of the iceburg. If you want more, say so and I'll try to find them. Many authors in this fandom have built worlds.

for world-building, especially alien/Pegasus worlds and cultures, mirabile-dictu and auburn are two writers who deliver often and well, so I'd say don't stop after reading just the two or three fics of theirs recced above. :)

Ripples in the Space Between (http://www.mardahin.net/sga/Ripples/ripples.html) This has awesome world building.

Colony Atlantis (http://www.icarus.slashcity.net/stories/colonyatlantis.html) is pretty awesome too, though may be more of an independence fic than just world building.

L-Space Incursions (http://slybrarian.livejournal.com/5054.html) is great world building of the same kind as Ripples, baby having and colony making.

Memoirs Universe (http://www.mardahin.net/sga/memoirs.html) Excellent world building, very interesting structure.

And I assume you have read Written by the Victors (http://www.trickster.org/speranza/cesper/Victors.html).
