TIP: If you go to your browser's toolbar at the top & go to Edit, there's an option there to "Find" a word or phrase on the page you're on -- I would be very lost without that when I'm searching for something.
That said, going through that list, using that wonderful feature, I can personally recommend the following three:
"It's All Your Fault, Radek, You Meddling Bastard" (http://www.alyse.info/sesa_files/meddlingbastard.htm) by fawkesielady_ed
"Wide Open Ocean" (http://setissma.livejournal.com/502555.html) by setissma
"Animal Husbandry" (http://www.casspeach.com/sga_fic/animal.html) by Casspeach
---------------
And.... I found two on that list that I haven't read, as yet, so I can't vouch for them, but I'm sure they're well-written & entertaining:
"Lucky's Hitlist" (http://fathomlessspite.livejournal.com/12868.html) by fathomlessspite
"Sunny, California" (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=6908) by Mystic
I prefer the Ctrl+F option, as I'm almost too lazy to mouse.
Good news - the list will soon be all on one page, and thus, easier to search in said manner. This will happen right after all the con reports are done, so get to poking me with sticks if you're in a hurry about it. (Or even just on general principles.)
Personally, I'm right there with you on the Ctrl+F option, but unfortunately, not all browsers are made the same with the keyboard shortcuts, so I thought I'd at least direct to the general area.... :D
RE: the list --- That is, indeed, fantabulous news! Will the list be moving addresses when that happens?
:stamps foot: Nu-uh! Everybody's experience is exactly the same as mine! I didn't even know that...but then, I didn't know there was an option in the menu bar 'til last night.
I'm thinking that I'll put in a fake LJ (labelled as such) cut at the original post, so that bookmarks all over the place don't go splooey - I hate when I follow my links, and they're no longer there. This gives people the ability to still find it, and they can make a new bookmark if the extra click is irksome.
Heh! I found out this weekend at my mom's house that her new Mac's 'Find' function on the keyboard was actually Cmd+F - praise the Apple PtB that utilize good tech writers for the Help section on the computers. *snorts* Anyhow, the Help section sent me to the Edit menu in the toolbar at the top, and since that's pretty much the same across the board so-to-speak... :D
Psst, I think con already happened and fun was had: Saturday Con Report (Joe & David panel, photo op) (http://elderwitty.livejournal.com/18615.html) and ~14,000 words of panel transcript (http://www.squidge.org/GiantMcShepAUList/Chicago.html). \o/
*snorts* Yeah, I'm lucky I even know what day it is today... this week has been one heck of a trip one way or another. On the plus side, I might actually have the day off work tomorrow, but on the minus side I'm going to be house-bound on a Saturday....nevermind on the first Saturday I "might" have off... but back on the plus side, I'll have the house to myself sort of for the day. I don't know whether I should squeal like a fangirl or cry in my beer -- maybe do both. ;) LOL!
Oooh, definitely -- plenty of those to read as things got far & away from me while they were being posted. Happiness is reading, cuddling with the kitties, and drinking good steaming hot coffee.... Well, at least one branch of happiness that includes a house to myself. ;)
Thanks! Me, too. At least it won't clear out our bank accounts and steal our hamsters on its way out the door. :D
And there are 10 or so new stories that I have in the file, but haven't uploaded yet, due to the changeover somehow getting started right while I was tooling up to go to my first ever con. Whose idea was that?!
shibela, thanks for the great veterinarian!Rodney recs and taking the time to educate me about the "find on this page" feature on my browser's toolbar.
Rodney's not exactly a veterinarian in these, but you might still like them:
a blue true dream of sky (http://untruism.net/stories/?page_id=6) by isilya. McShep, Australian outback, John is a rancher/cattle drover, Rodney a biologist (and delivers a calf, IIRC). ~8700 words
Joyriding (http://skinscript.livejournal.com/26980.html) by skinscript. For certain values of McShep. Rodney is the aquarium's chief scientist (also hands-on), John is an orca. ~1050 words
P.S. - quick heads-up so the mods don't have to tell you: you'll want to tag your post per item 3 in the comm rules (http://community.livejournal.com/sgagenrefinders/profile) as soon as you get a chance. (If you're not quite sure how after reading the comm info page, gaffsie created a very helpful mini-tutorial (http://community.livejournal.com/sgagenrefinders/701165.html?thread=5115373#t5115373).) Thanks!
P.S. Thanks for the heads-up and the helpful links on the tagging thing, but I came back to the site too late to save my ignorant self. Of course, I had no excuse for my ignorance since all the rules are posted but I DID NOT BOTHER TO READ THEM. I've done my time. I will try to do better in the future, here and at other sites.
Eh, it happens (I've confused the rules of one comm with the other or just spaced on rules myself more than once) -- so I try to make it a habit to re-check the rules of the comm (I think) I'm posting to before I hit "post" -- and encourage others to do the same, so that hopefully over time there'll be slightly fewer instances that make the fab mods of this fab comm sigh loudly. Doesn't always work (even for myself), but trying helps, I think/hope! :)
Please tag your post, thanks! Since another member has already let you know about this rule I'll give you until Monday to catch up; if you need any help feel free to ask.
ETA: Since you didn't tag your post or contact me I'm revocing your posting privileges for one month. In the future please try to follow our rules re: tagging to make navigating this comm easier for everyone, thanks.
Hi, debris_k, I am sorry I did not properly educate myself about all the rules that keep your site so enjoyable. I have reviewed the site info carefully since my last post to make sure I know what I am doing next time. Thank you for adding tags to my request if you are the one who did it. Most humbly, winkatfireflies
No apologies needed, as long as you're familiar with our rules now, but thanks and you're, of course, forgiven and all that. :-) (Also, yep, I'm the tagging mod around here, and you're welcome, etc.)
