McShep action/adventure AU

I started off at [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] looking for a story that I evidently imagined that had Rodney as a damsel in distress type and John as a mercenary he was trying to hire. I didn't find that one - I'm starting to think it was just a story idea I had. But, I know there are stories out there along these lines.

Basically, I'm looking for any stories where John is ex-military, working as a mercenary or bodyguard, etc. where he's either hired by Rodney to protect him or hired by somebody else to track Rodney down. Rodney in jeopardy and being saved/protected by John.

The original story you're looking for, I think, is called The Protection Racket (http://kormantic.livejournal.com/179260.html) BUT if you want more of those types of stories, go to elderwitty's AU Masterlist (http://elderwitty.livejournal.com/11289.html) page, and look under B for bodyguard.

She doesn't have 'mercenary' listed or 'hitman' but if you search through the links of stories compiled there, (and this is a recent list, so the links should still be good) then you're sure to find what you're looking for! :D Have fun!

In both of these John doesn't start out protecting Rodney, but ends up doing so:
Hegira (http://kellifer-fic.livejournal.com/62660.html) by kellifer. John is an experimental soldier-prototype.
Arizona and sequels (http://seperis.livejournal.com/tag/sga:%20atlantis%20project) by seperis. Can be read as complete if you don't mind not-so-happy endings, can be seen as semi-abandoned WIP if you do, but worth reading anyway. Plus the first 5000ish words of (once-)planned sequel Panama City are hidden in the last DVD commentary.

This one doesn't have John as an 'official' bodyguard per se, but I do believe the vibe is what you're looking for: Heat (http://01100100.fanfib.org/fanfiction/sga/five/au4/au4.html), by d. John is an aeroplane pilot and Rodney is stuck in Peru. Luckily they only get into so much trouble as they can get out of. I like the 'know you' aspect of this one very much. :)

There's also The Pirate's Prisoner (http://www.rhymer.org.uk/sga/pirate/pirate.htm), which has Sheppard as the captor/antagonist for once (sort of). Rodney is captured by the Dread Pirate Sheppard and his merry band of outlaws. Of course, Rodney has particular ideas about how pirates behave, and he fills in the blanks as to the others' behavior whether they oblige or not. However, it's been a long time since I've read it, so again... :( I feel like I'm not really hitting the bull's eye with these recs, but hopefully they're close enough to the mark that you'd enjoy them...

Both are McShep, if that wasn't clear before. ;)
