Half AU McShep where Rodney is not physicist request

Given that the Giant AU list (all hail elderwitty) was started for fics where NEITHER John or Rodney were (currently)pilot or (currently)physicist respectively, I thought it time to beg your indulgence in starting to collect half AUs. (I will of course trawl through the AU list for sneaky ones.)
I thought there might be less where Rodney is not a physicist. (prove me wrong!)
I will take any where he used to be one but he isn't anymore, like Si Muovo http://www.trickster.org/kass/SiMuovo.html.
So John = pilot, Rodney = anything or ex-physicist.

I thought Elderwitty's list included stories that feature John as a pilot and/or Rodney as a physicist, as long as the other has an AU occupation? Or am I misunderstanding what you're looking for?

Originally, when I started collecting, the Giant AU list was for completely AU occupations for both characters. Elderwitty bravely took on posting them on her lj and at that point some half AU's have snuck on but when I started collecting those fics my intention had been for only those where they had either NEVER been pilot/physicist or where NEITHER of them still were.As I have stated, I am going through elderwittys list to find those half AUs that have made it onto it but I am hoping that maybe there may be others that were never suggested as they didn't fit my original request. Does that make it a bit clearer what I am after? Waits with baited breath..

almostnever's right, the list includes what you're looking for. I'll be pleasantly surprised if someone finds you any new ones. Then elderwitty will add them. Going to suggest Si Muovo right now. :-)

See, I screwed the whole thing up. I just couldn't leave out all the great stories that were half AU, so they weren't sneaking in - I was throwing them on there for all I was worth. :D There are even some on there where they end up in their canon positions. (I have no explanation for the two stories where they are cookies/Peeps.)

Also, some of the ones where John is a pilot are listed under a specialty. Si Muovo is under 'bush pilot' and I know there're a couple under 'air ambulance pilot'. I just stuck them on the list under whatever the person who suggested them had listed as their professions (I did change some after reading them, though).

I've been considering listing all the various pilot-types under both the specialty listing and 'pilot'. Would that suit? Or would it be too confusing? Am seeking opinions. Ya know what? Maybe I'll make a poll. I've never done that - how hard could it be? (just put that on my tombstone, willya?)

I'll be happy to add any and all new ones you can find, though. Bring 'em on!

You are just way more generous than I am. (I didn't mean sneaking in a bad way, really).I only wanted complete AU s (at the time)and I was having a strop when half ones were suggested.I think I need to get a life.
As far as sorting by the "kind" of pilot seems unnecessary work for you as a simple "edit" "find" search under pilot found all the bush/test/ex/rescue/helicopter/etc fics you had listed. Or is that just because I use firefox? I think you have done more than enough work on posting these and should give yourself a pat on the back.(unless Pat complains). I will of course let you know of any that haven't made onto your list. It seems unlikely that there are any, but I live in hope.

Not really, just more confusing. :grin: I didn't think you meant 'sneaking' in a bad way, I just emphasized it to contrast it with 'throwing' later in the sentence. Possibly I should have reversed that and italicized 'throwing' instead. Hey, you wanted what you wanted - and as it was your list, you were in charge. Speaking as one who took TWO YEARS to pick a flatware pattern (what? I'm going to have it for the rest of my life), I see no problem there.

I would leave the list as it is, except that it's on two different LJ entries due to length, so if you ctrl-f on the L-Z list, you miss all the stuff on the A-K side. I put up a poll on sga_noticeboard, and the consensus seems to be to put the all under 'pilot' with the sub-types following in parentheses. That's not too hard - I can do that.

And I always hope for more!!

Nice to hear from Pat. And of course, you. Don't think there are any fics left to find,cos you got them all! Now that I have realized (slow on uptake here duh)that your list is fully comprehensive I shall just pick the ones I want off you! Shall now divert my short attention span to the inanimate/other crack fic list. Runs away. (also I use paper plates)

But just think, people are writing more RIGHT NOW!! They could be posting them tomorrow. We have to remain ever vigilant. Have fun rolling around in the list. Have you seen skaredykat's New to SGA primer (fabulous even if you aren't)? Or debris_k's list of lists? They're awesome!

I use paper plates, too, but with the good, heavy silverware. I like it like that. I can't stand a flimsy fork that you almost toss over your shoulder because it has no heft to it. Erk! :is picky:

But if people keep writing..........we will have to keep reading!!!! Oh No. Another excuse to prevaricate/avoid work type stuff. Such trauma.
(I avoid the good, heavy silverware conflict by not using it except when fingers just wont serve. Soup can get messy.I is not picky when confronted by food.)
Love the lists listed above.Also love the skaredykats recent comments about how often the same fics are requested over and over again sometimes within hours.Maybe there should be some kind of filter that can recognize these at a thousand paces and answer them. On the other hand the feeling of superiority to be gained by thinking "how could you not know this fic" and "have you tried looking at this weeks requests" and "you know the name/author have you tried searching on google" is just so warming. Usually swiftly followed by realizing that I have lost one myself and have to throw myself at the mercy of same people I have been huffing at.lol. such is karma.

Well, if we must...we must. It's a burden but we bear it gracefully as we may. :grin:

(Very clever - saves time washing, too. I avoid the mess by not eating soup. Stew, yes. Soup, no. Not sure why, when the difference is only a matter of degree of liquidity.)

Yes, the oft-requested list is HI-larious. Sadly, I still don't always recognize a fic by the descriptions that people post. Happily, this leads to re-reading good stories. :D

Hee, only just saw this thread -- chortling my head off. Must get back and make additions to the "That story where?" list. Maybe an activity for this weekend... FYI, comment-type conversations with you two (and admiring the McShep AU list) were an important part of the inspiration for the (Newer) SGA readers' guide (which I must also update -- at least check the "last updated" dates for other lists on).

I inherited nice flatware. Yet mostly use the same handful of extremely assorted cutlery instead. Not enough formal dinner parties...?

I'm weird. I use the good Oneida (Easton pattern) silverware every day. I bought a black $240 faux fur coat (at 66% off - so only $80), and when my sis asked what formal events I planned to wear it to (I'm v.v. casual), I responded, "Are you kidding? This is gonna be my coat every day!" And so it has been for the past four years. I like the nice things, just not necessarily the activities they're usually paired with.

ETA: the right name for my pattern (der!) and a link. It's just simple. Plain. No roses, or swirls, crazy geometrics or gilt musket stock-looking handles. Easton pattern

Have now rejected all soup as too wet. Does Stew have a say? or would it be better to ask Chip? or Candy? I think cannibalism may be taking the use of Easton steak knives too far.

It turns out you are completely right. I hadn't realized that elderwitty had expanded on my original (very narrow) reququests and therefore hadn't even bothered to look at the list properly. That'll learn me to make assumptions. What a fail... Or to put it another way, you were right, I was stupid..
