POW Sheppard

So a lot of stories allude to Sheppard having been a POW at some point (maybe even canon does at some point- though I can't pinpoint it), but not many actually describe the experience. Any suggestions?

Don't think there were any canon references. Lot of people don't realize that there were no POWs taken during Operation Enduring Freedom until July 9th 2010 and he lacks the POW ribbon on his dress blues. But then again TPTB were awful at fact checking. :-P

And I agree completely on TPTB- I loved (and still do love) X-Files, but if I had to hear them "file a 302" or have a section chief over an AD one more time I was going to throw the remote through the TV! LOL!

Pretty sure people get Sheppard confused with O'Neill, who did make a canon reference to being a POW.

Sheppard doesn't have the ribbon for Antarctic service (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antarctica_Service_Medal) on his dress blues either; TPTB fail at details.

And since he spent eleven months at McMurdo, Sheppard is allowed the "Wintered Over" Device. A small detail but still missed.

That's an interesting point about POWs, but I was wondering what year you actually meant, since we haven't hit July 9th 2010 yet! :-) Still, not having POWs for as long as possible is definitely a good thing.

I guess I just always assumed that he did have some sort of special ops background and that those missions aren't always confined to countries we are officially at war with. We still have missing Americans in Colombia despite the so called "Justice and Peace" farce.
