I've only recently started watching SGA and reading the fic. I've got a hankering though for any Old West/Wild West style AU fic. I'm happy with slash - McKay/Sheppard, Beckett/Sheppard or gen/team. I've only seen S1 so far, but I'm not worried if Ronon, for example, appears in the fic.

To give an example of the sort of story I'm thinking of, cause I'm sure I might sound vague, if you're familiar with The Sentinel fandom, arianna's Bitterwood Creek/Oak Creek Canyon is the sort of setting I mean.

(PS, mods I can't seem to tag this?)

Here (http://sga.fictionresource.com/fic_index.php?ac=tag&id=00254) are four of them.

Also, The New Frontier (http://www.aliencorn.net/stories/new.html) is one of my favourites. It's not actually an Old West AU though; John's just on a planet that is very similar to the old west, but he's very much a cowboy in it, so I thought it was worth mentioning. ;)

Oh, I remembered another one! A Rush and a Push and the Land is Ours (http://trinityofone.unrealwords.com/rushpush.html) by lj user="trinityofone">. It's based on an old John Wayne movie.

There's Bound to Heart, Bound to Home (http://www.alyse.info/sesa_files/boundtoheart.htm) by [livejournal.com profile] calcitrix.

Not quite West, but set in the Northwest Territories around 1815, with Sheppard, McKay, Teyla, Ronon, Lorne and Elizabeth. Awesome fic, but be warned at the length (~ 25,000 words). Also, as a fair disclaimer, it was written for me for this year's [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa, so I might be a bit biased. *g*

I just tagged your post and noticed nothing unusual. What was the problem you were having?

That's weird; all members should be able to add existing tags, just not make up new ones. If it happens again let me know, but I doubt it's anything to do with what I can control at the comm - if you're a member you automatically have posting and tagging permission, and I certainly don't have the power to take away only the latter. ?.?

Weird lj is weird.

The Code Duello by toomuchplor (PG-13, gen, humor)
http://www.talkoncorners.net/zine/rose.html
The team visits an Old West-style planet. -- "You did not just steal a ZPM from a mob of angry cowboys," John says, urgently.

Historical setting:
Blue Colorado Skies by X-parrot (PG, McKay/Sheppard, steampunk)
http://community.livejournal.com/sgahcchallenges/16532.html
Rodney had guessed John Smith would be trouble the day he rode into town and tramped into his shop, yellow with dust and stinking of horse and sweat, and asked if he was McKay. Rodney had looked at the man's worn boots, his shabby black Stetson, and the Colt holstered at his side, and known no good could come of this.

The Road to Nowhere by le_mot_mo (PG, McKay/Sheppard)
http://le-mot-mo.livejournal.com/123600.html
1853, Boston. On a beautiful Spring day, eleven year old Rodney McKay's world falls to pieces. At the same time, that day marks the beginning of an adventure that will bring him more then he ever imagined, and that will eventually lead him back to Boston, where everything will come full circle.

Not sure if you'd be interested in these, but just in case, here are some in a modern western setting and/or have cowboys:
Animal Husbandry by Casspeach (NC-17, McKay/Sheppard)
http://www.casspeach.com/sga_fic/animal.html
John is a slightly down-on-his-luck horse trainer and rodeo cowboy. Rodney is a more-than-slightly grumpy vet.

A.T. Lantis Corral by forcryinoutloud (NC-17, McKay/Sheppard)
http://community.livejournal.com/harlequin_sga/75708.html
[haven't read this one, it's on my to read list and marked as having cowboys]

A Whole World of Trouble by sheafrotherdon (NC-17, McKay/Sheppard)
http://community.livejournal.com/sga_flashfic/562904.html
Rodney's a genius who's new to town and John's a country singer in the local bar & cowboy.

Down on the Ranch by foggynite (PG-13, McKay/Sheppard)
http://foggynite.livejournal.com/123615.html
Astrophysicist Rodney McKay inherited part of the Circle A horse ranch from his uncle Marshall. No one expected him to want to keep it, especially the general manager, John Sheppard. Now, as the Rathe Land Development Corporation tries to buy up as much of Pegasus County as possible, John must convince Rodney to help him expose the corrupt conglomerate and bring his uncle's murderers to justice.

Hi, it's a two part story, and I only have the first half backed up. There was a search for the fic here http://sgastoryfinders.livejournal.com/3409754.html with people offering to email the story; you could try posting to the person that was offering.

It's a terrific Old West story with SGA characters. If you're at s1, you won't know Kannan (sp?) who is canonically Teyla's baby's father along about s4/s5, but I don't think it'll spoil the story any.
