I'm hosting a Deranged Mckay Masterlist that is starting to grow to Mammoth proportions (talk about genre eh?). It's a compilation of all the fics (that I know of), that feature a Rodney who's a few planets short of a galaxy, if you catch my drift.

Featuring: The serious mental health problem list/ The nervous breakdown list/ The 'OMG they broke Rodney' list/ The 'flying HIGH' list

___

And with that out of the way, can anyone point me to fic that features Rodney's horrible, horrible childhood? (or mildly horrible childhood. Whatever ;) I've made a start of a Rodney's misserable childhood masterlist.

Yay for the Deranged McKay Masterlist! :-D

As for your request, the only fic that comes to mind only has mentions of Rodney's 'no good, pretty bad, definitely too strict to be good for a kid' grandmother, and how she effected his life: But Never the Nights (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=4627) by [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan.

Also, there was a previous search for aboused-as-a-child!Rodney fics; try here (http://community.livejournal.com/sgagenrefinders/46308.html).

...Gaping lot hole? See, I missed that bit. It could be there, I guess, I took so long reading it I was half-forgetting bits of it as I went on.

(Also, the grandma bit might be from another fic, my brain is stupid; what I recall is a not-canon!Jeannie showing John pics of young!Rodney pre-grandma-from-hell, when he was all smiley and carefree. Now I'll have to re-read to double check. Sheesh, you think it might be a good idea to do this before reccing, Debris?)

I owe my brain an apology this time; it *is* the fic I was thinking of. Excerpt from a flashback in "But Never the Nights":

"I can't believe they kept you. I told them to give you away after that disaster with that Murphy kid two years ago. He's a disgrace, I said, a troublemaker, but they wouldn't listen. Well, we all can see where it got them." She stared at him, calculating, like she was sizing him up. "During your summer break, you will come live with me. I'll teach you a thing or two about behaviour."

His grandmother turned, closing the door behind her with a final sounding click. Ronnie refused to cry, ignoring the tear streaks on his face that hadn't quite dried yet.

And there's older-and-fonder-of-Rodney!not-canon-Jeannie, too. Now I just have to find a plot hole big enough to resemble one of the smaller ones in Matrix, and my brain will be able to rest easy. :-)

Oh yeah... I remember that part. There was something about needing to know the outgoing adress from where you were dialing as well as the one where you wanted to know, and apparently Rodney didn't know the former. Erm, I think. That bit kinda flew over my head, as I was never a SG-1 fan/watcher, so the intricate canon details of gating are outside my scope. But it was a bit frustrating that Rodney couldn't work his usual gate!magic(TM), I agree with you there. Still, another agreeing, [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan *is* a fantastic writer, and this was a heck of a long story and kind of an early-ish attempt (hope I'm right there), so I was willing to overlook the messy detail-bits.

And now I really will read the whole thing again. *clutches at head* And I've barely scratch the bottomless barrel that's SGA Big Bang!

P.S.

Nevermind the spelling (which isn't worse than mine, btw, yeesh), I have still yet to tell you I *adore* your icon! *grabs it and plots insane, nay, *deranged* abduction scenarios*
