Decent-Caldwell stories?
Feb. 4th, 2010 12:33 pmHey, I'm looking for Caldwell stories where he's a decent human being. To Elizabeth, to McShep, whatever- just stories where he's professional, good at his job, and not the spawn of Satan.
I'm particularly interested where he turns out to know about McShep and doesn't care, or is an actively good guy about it, and John and Rodney are surprised by that. But all decent-Caldwell fic is welcome- please warn for pairings.
I'm starting to wonder if Caldwell needs a tolerators group like Kavanagh has.

Date: 2010-02-04 10:16 pm (UTC)Oh, also, in this story's universe Rodney is a meta-human (as is John in later stories) and John and Lorne were raised by meta-human versions of the Monkees.

is one of my favorites. It's a post-Trinity fic and Stephen is being PARTICULARLY nice to Rodney. (In that NC-17 sort of way.)

Date: 2010-02-05 08:12 pm (UTC)This story has excellent detail and character introspection. I've always wondered what would happen if we put those two together. (Sheppard and Caldwell) I don't think they actually dislike each other as much as they don't really understand what makes the other tick. Both good men with vastly different command styles.
It's difficult to find an evenly balanced story with both men in it without making one of them the 'bad guy' I think this story does a wonderful job at attaining that balance.
There are elements of Het. However, it's in the background and I was able to ignore those bits (I usually only read gen).
Excellent story, imho. In fact I'm going to go read it again :)

Date: 2010-02-08 04:02 am (UTC)My mega-long The Killing Frost, in which the Daedalus is stranded on an ice world, features a lot of Caldwell (as well as the rest of the ensemble -- but he has a big part and gets to shoot a gun and run around in the wilderness and so forth).
Losing Time is a Critical Mass tag that deals with Caldwell's Goa'uld possession and his emotional recovery.
Empire is about what Caldwell's family life back on Earth might be like.
Golden is a more-bitter-than-sweet Caldwell/OFC story that was written when I was under the mistaken impression that Pileggi wouldn't be coming back after season three.
He has a very minor role in Long Road Home as Sheppard's neighbor (it's an AU) but I don't think he does much, so that one probably doesn't count, but I figured I'd mention it ...
