Hey, I'm looking for Caldwell stories where he's a decent human being.  To Elizabeth, to McShep, whatever- just stories where he's professional, good at his job, and not the spawn of Satan.

I'm particularly interested where he turns out to know about McShep and doesn't care, or is an actively good guy about it, and John and Rodney are surprised by that.  But all decent-Caldwell fic is welcome- please warn for pairings.

I'm starting to wonder if Caldwell needs a tolerators group like Kavanagh has.

Caldwell has decent-human scenes in [livejournal.com profile] astolat's Time in a Bottle (http://www.intimations.org/fanfic/stargate/time_in_a_bottle.html) (about John and Rodney being in a relationship), [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan's Theory of Evolution (http://sgabigbang.talkoncorners.net/?view=fic&id=2) (ditto), and [livejournal.com profile] quasar273's Single Handed (http://community.livejournal.com/sga_flashfic/478201.html) (about Rodney's health). There's also Sacrifices Made (http://blackchaps.livejournal.com/261672.html) by [livejournal.com profile] blackchaps, where Caldwell is sympathetic when Rodney has to go back to Earth to face charges for assaulting John.

It's gen, but my story Through My Eyes (http://www.enolasrealm.com/thrumyeyes.htm) has a decent Caldwell interacting with Narrator Lorne.

Oh, also, in this story's universe Rodney is a meta-human (as is John in later stories) and John and Lorne were raised by meta-human versions of the Monkees.

I love this post. hahaha. I get tired of Caldwell bashing, too, except Caldwell-as-a-Goa'uld.

Part 4 (not labeled as such, but...) of "Beauty in the Breakdown" (http://daisycm83.livejournal.com/74575.html) by [livejournal.com profile] daisycm83 (if you read the whole fic, Part 1 is Lorne/Weir smut, any other pairings are friendship or incidental)

ETA: Caldwell/Elizabeth interaction for the story

I don't know how you feel about Caldwell/McKay, but this:

is one of my favorites. It's a post-Trinity fic and Stephen is being PARTICULARLY nice to Rodney. (In that NC-17 sort of way.)

There's a gen (I think?) WIP on ff.net with decent!Caldwell that I'm keeping my eye on, Puddle Jumper Down (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4727994/1/Puddle_Jumper_Down), in which Sheppard and Caldwell are in a jumper crash together, and are stranded in the wilderness.

I've looked at it again, and it is finished, the author has just forgotten to mark it complete! And on second thought there's a bit of het for Sheppard and Caldwell in the story with some female OCs, but it's not really the focus of the story, as I remember.

Actually I believe this one is now complete and I would second this recommendation whole-heartedly. It shows both Caldwell and John outside of their comfort zone. (Reflects a more personal side of both men without demonizing anyone.) Most of the Atlantis characters are here too, but it is focused mostly on Caldwell and Sheppard. It is H/C, quite lengthy and well paced.

This story has excellent detail and character introspection. I've always wondered what would happen if we put those two together. (Sheppard and Caldwell) I don't think they actually dislike each other as much as they don't really understand what makes the other tick. Both good men with vastly different command styles.

It's difficult to find an evenly balanced story with both men in it without making one of them the 'bad guy' I think this story does a wonderful job at attaining that balance.

There are elements of Het. However, it's in the background and I was able to ignore those bits (I usually only read gen).

Excellent story, imho. In fact I'm going to go read it again :)

It's only a few paragraphs, but the last section of "Eight Ways John and Rodney Gave Themselves Away" (http://trinityofone.livejournal.com/28247.html) by [livejournal.com profile] trinityofone sounds a lot like what you were looking for in your second paragraph--they don't know that he knows, so they're not surprised, but he is decent about it. The main pairing is McShep, as the title probably indicates, but there's Ronon/Teyla in one section, and it's pretty hard not to see Jack O'Neill/Daniel Jackson of SG-1 by implication in another section.

If I may self-rec, I love writing Caldwell and wish there was more Caldwell fic out there! These are all gen except the one that's labeled Caldwell/OFC ...

My mega-long The Killing Frost, in which the Daedalus is stranded on an ice world, features a lot of Caldwell (as well as the rest of the ensemble -- but he has a big part and gets to shoot a gun and run around in the wilderness and so forth).

Losing Time is a Critical Mass tag that deals with Caldwell's Goa'uld possession and his emotional recovery.

Empire is about what Caldwell's family life back on Earth might be like.

Golden is a more-bitter-than-sweet Caldwell/OFC story that was written when I was under the mistaken impression that Pileggi wouldn't be coming back after season three.

He has a very minor role in Long Road Home as Sheppard's neighbor (it's an AU) but I don't think he does much, so that one probably doesn't count, but I figured I'd mention it ...

Cruising old entries, thought I'd jump in with a self-pimp: all my Caldwell stories seem to be kinky, but he's a good guy and knows about John and Rodney in One Out of Every Twenty and Nice Place to Visit (both John/Rodney and Weir/Caldwell). He's also a good guy in panopticon, though it's mostly just a Weir/Caldwell PWP.

Caldwell is my favorite. <3
