I recently read Azrael's "Second Fiddle" where John has a mental breakdown when Rodney is 'killed' and I loved it. If there are any other McShep fics out there where a part of the plot is that if one of them dies the other does too I would love to read them. I don't care if it's a mental stability thing, or a bonding, or even a suicide pact but if they're out there... I wanna read 'em. Thanks so much!

NOTE: This was tagged as a death fic search after I posted it but it doesn't have to be. Even if it's just alluded to or the story mentions a promise being made about a suicide pact that works too. They don't have to die and if they do I've always said that crying is nothing to be ashamed of : )

Sorry, that was me (co-mod) with the tagging; this part of your post: a part of the plot is that if one of them dies lead me to add that tag. (Technically, it could also slide under the dark fic tag as well, but I didn't want to push the genre too far.) Even if you aren't looking stricly for death fics someone later looking through the tags will probably appreciate the tagging.

By all means, feel free to add any and all of the other tags that you feel are appropriate; angst, dark fic, etc. I don't think there's a suicide one, but there's a good bunch to choose from.

That's the link. You have to remember that it's a WIP and likely to stay like that. There are 11 chapters up but the fic can be 'completed' by ch. 9. Rodney's 'death' and Sheppard's breakdown are in ch. 10 and 11 but that plotline is a cliffie so read them knowing that. Hope you like it too!

I have a few recs for you. They all deal with Rodney being lost one way or another and John's reactions. Two things draw me to all of these stories: the emotion is all in character, with no sudden transformation to emo!John, and (though there is angst at times) they all end happily. Which is, for me, a major plus.

But Never the Nights (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=4627) by lavvyan is the one where Rodney gets culled and then stranded when the Wraith dart crashes. The POV switches between Rodney and John, so we get to see how they're both dealing.

Come Back Later (http://cottontail.livejournal.com/44966.html) by cottontail is the one where Rodney Ascends and John retreats to Earth. He comes back when Rodney is found, de-Ascended and sans memories.

The Ratio of Burning (http://stillane.livejournal.com/17723.html) by stillane is the one where the team goes on a mission and Rodney comes back wrong. There are is creepiness and angst and emotional backlash for everyone who deals with Rodney.

Thanks for the recs! I have read But Never the Nights and The Ratio of Burning and they didn't occur to me when I was thinking of this kind of fic but you're right. I'm excited about Come Back Later - that kind of feeling that Atlantis isn't home for John without Rodney is a favorite plotline of mine. And of course amnesia!Rodney will be fun too. I obviously haven't read it yet but I wonder if he's as loud as he was before. I look forward to it and thanks.
