McShep AU: Stargate verse without Atlantis

Are there any story set on the Stargate universe (so there is SG-1, SGC, Rodney is an astrophysicist and John is a pilot) but, somehow, they never ended on Atlantis (or Atlantis don't even exist)? I'm wondering how they could meet and be together on a setting where Atlantis isn't a part of.
