John centered AUs?

Hey there! I was wondering if there were any AUs out there, possibly with a bit younger John? Or even something where his introduction to the Stargates and all went a bit differently, because I remember when I saw the first episode and it just left me a little...wanting? I'm not sure. Honestly I am brand-spanking new to the fandom and still feeling around for what exactly I prefer in ways of fanfiction...seeing as I haven't actually read any yet!

So something like mentioned above would be ace, younger John by a few years....slash or gen/het either is fine. I don't really have any preference for pairing although if its slash, I'm thinking I might enjoy John in more of a 'bottom' role.(I do hate to box...really I'm open to much anything.) Hit me! Or just if you have any super amazing rec lists that I MUST know of being new in the fandom...be gentle? :)

The introduction to the Stargate is the same, but JOHN is different. If you want dimensions and young John, OP, this is THE ONE!!!! NOT to be missed. I just listened to the podfic of it again, and it was like curling up with an old friend.

Except for a Few Small Bruises (http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/81473.html) was a John-centered, college-era AU fic from this year's McShep Match. McKay/Sheppard, unsurprisingly, but I don't remember if either guy took a particular bottom role there.

Huh... I'm actually surprised not to see this one, but...

"Hindsight" (http://glitterati.talkoncorners.net/fiction/hindsight.php) by Pru (rageprufrock) is from John's POV -- there are sequels, and I think "More Than" (http://glitterati.talkoncorners.net/fiction/morethan.php) is from John's POV, but "Personal Item" (http://glitterati.talkoncorners.net/fiction/personalitem.php) is from Rodney's POV. Warning: it is McShep slash.
