1. Are there any fics from "The Shrine" where Sheppard was the one infected with the Second Childhood instead of Rodney?

2. On another note - I've been searching through just about every tag that might apply and haven't found one yet, but are there any SGA language-related thematic lists and/or previous posts on this comm?
ETA: Clarification: I'm interested in thematic lists (or just recs) of fics that have language-related plots - why all the aliens speak English, does the Stargate encode a translation program in a traveler's brain as they go through, character(s) learning or knowing (and speaking) a foreign/non-English language, ASL, Pegasus-based languages, etc.

3. I recently read a fic where Todd kidnapped Rodney and forced him to help with programming/a way to defeat other Wraith after convincing everyone on Atlantis that McKay was dead - Rodney cooperated because he felt he owed Todd a debt after the Miller's Crossing fiasco (I swear I bookmarked it, but it's disappeared!). Are there any other fics where Rodney and/or John work with Todd towards a mutual goal, and perhaps learn more about Wraith society/culture/what-have-you? I'd prefer less angst than the fic I described, but it's not a requirement.

4. Not sure if this request will translate properly... in The Sentinel fandom, they're called "case file" fics, where the stories would have an episode-like plot and very canon characterizations. Is there anything similar in this fandom?

I prefer McShep, Gen, or Team-fic. No bdsm, AU is fine, no outright het unless it's peripheral/secondary, please. Outsider POV is epic and made of win. Thanks in advance!

Question on #2: Are you looking for lists, fics, what-have-you that are posted in a language other than English? Or are you looking for lists, fics, what-have-you that focus on languages other than English?


For #3:

"Finding Home" (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=14812) by Diamond_Raven ((Alternate location is here (http://sgabigbang.talkoncorners.net/index.php?view=fic&id=37))) is possibly the closest fit to your request - although not much extra learned on Wraith society & culture learned. Todd is not a main character in the story... he is a big supporting character, though. (Almost 55,000 words, McShep slash)

One of my favorite Todd fics is "My Brother's Keeper" (http://community.livejournal.com/sga_flashfic/769901.html) by kiku65 - it's short & (bitter)sweet - however, I'm not sure how well it fits your request, since there's not much of Wraith society/culture learned. There is major character death in this one.

For the stretch, I would recommend "Wraithling Tales I" (http://www.caffiends.net/viewstory.php?sid=421) & "Wraithling Tales II" (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5472360/1/Wraithling_Tales_Volume_2) by Perryvic aka Peregrine. There is a lot of Wraith culture & society, but not so much on Sheppard & crew helping Todd (called Haldan Star-Eye in these stories).

I don't remember seeing any thematic lists covering language translation properties of the Stargate, but I do know a few stories that kind of cover that ground....

Civil Contract (http://community.livejournal.com/sga_flashfic/469940.html) & its sequel The Three Laws of Arthur C. Clarke (and corollaries thereof) by saphanibaal - the first one covers more of that than the second, but... Both are gen!fic & are around 2,200 & 7,800 words respectively.

Irreplacable (http://stargate-atlantis.org/fanfics/viewstory.php?sid=2431) by kashkow (Gen, almost 54,000 words) - John's stranded on a planet & meets some of the indigents.

First Contact (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=1249) by Kylie Lee & TheGrrrl (McShep slash, around 6,500 words) - Atlantis Expedition encounters a new life form.

For 4, Whipping Boy (http://sgabigbang.talkoncorners.net/?view=fic&id=74) by skinscript (2009 SGA Big Bang, gen) comes to mind, also Long As I Remember The Rain's Been Coming Down (http://community.livejournal.com/sga_genficathon/41906.html) by chaps1870, as do several by friendshipper and mad_maudlin. Plus maybe use the comm tags to find gen action/adventure fics?

For 2, try Rebuilding Babel (http://fiercelydreamed.talkoncorners.net/main/archives/stargate-atlantis/rebuilding-babel) by fiercelydreamed, in which the Rodney completely loses the ability to understand/use language. McShep.

...and now that I think on it, were you looking for permutationality (http://smiley.zonezine.net/html/62850.html) by sardonicsmiley, or something like it? Scary story about Rodney's capture by the Wraith. Luckily, they only want him for his mind. The one with the living Hive, Rodney learning Wraith, and the necessity of proper footwear.

Different From Your own (http://archiveofourown.org/works/25459) by Kristin Murphy might fit #3. It's gen and pretty much AU because, um *scratches head*, I never saw in canon that the team formed a rock band. It's Sheppard and Todd, McShep.

For No 4, The Geeks and Goons series (earlier stories are gen, the link above in McKay/Sheppard slash... but all very 'could really have been aired on TV'). One of the best series in the fandom....

For #2, have you read by sheafrotherdon. It reads mostly gen, and if you ignore the kiss at the end, you can avoid all implications of Teyla/Rodney het. It's a beautifully done story though, and really does fill your second request. In the story, Rodney realises that the translation of "leader" that Teyla hears when the Earthers are speaking is essentially naming her a Queen, much like the wraith, so he learns the Athosian word for Queen.
