Fandom, I have such a burning desire for fic where instead of Sheppard having his friends die (or Vegas!Sheppard's medic), the black mark was on the other side: Mitch or Dex or the medic got the black mark, and Sheppard... well, found another path to Atlantis. *extremely hopeful look*

From Vegas!John's pov, btw, yes. And there's going to be jealousy. And an actual reason why he's there. Because he was last seen dying in the desert. So, yeah, I can't handwave stuff aside. I suck. But he's there. And he sees this Rodney who isn't a bastard...and yeah...and so plotty, porny, sorta angsty, sorta romantic John/Rodney/Vegas!John dp fic. I've about 3k written so far.

Why has no one done this? I mean come on, it's almost 5 years since the issue was really brought up in the show... From what I've seen, SGA fandom has done everything twice. And then Remixed it. XD

John is screwed blued and probably covering a tat with that wristband... all the time!
He's the opposite of mentally healthy.
Rodney is a bastion of sanity and social comfort in comparison, if we look to cannon.
This is why we love them. They're Fracked and Fubar respectively in McShep.
We'd have to change his father being a prick and his mother dieing to change how emotionally messed up Shep is. And then we'd have to worry about his genetic predisposition to being a bit hands-off etc.

Also? This says we're very comfortable exploring all the ways we're a bit broken ourselves. Or that we're Sadists with a gleeful love of the pouty lips and manfully held in would be tears if they let themselves ever feel.
Ahem. Nah. We're just very comfortable healthy people exploring mental possibilities. That's the story. I'm sticking to it.

Hmm... But then: what about alternate!Vegas!John, who was a team leader and successful? What about Mensa-verse!John, who might not even have been military? I feel that the 'black mark' is really mostly just lazy pilot writing (they wanted to convey John's background in shorthand in Rising, there wasn't time to make a speech, the way Vegas!Rodney did). But John could be messed up from his failed marriage... his upbringing... any number of things.)

(I'm a total whore for AUs, never mind me. I *adore* the idea that anything is possible *g*)

Well... in canon, Mitch, Dex, and the medic all end up dead, and no one wants Sheppard dead, right? *adjusts halo* But he could very well have survived but be damaged... out of the Air Force... and much harder to discover, unless one were tenacious....

You can't tease us with Amputee!John or SeverePSTD!John or ooooh Hearing or Sight impaired!John!
How wonderfully messed upinteresting he would be! Or would it be worked so that because of the event and change, he had to deal with needing people even earlier? Did he form attachments or learn to communicate with others?

Or is he close to the edge? Does the Genni push him over? Do we see him snap in Atlantis?

Not that I'm a bad bad woman, but inquiring minds want to watchknow.

Also? would kill to have Traumatized!Bitter!Paralyzed!Shep become involved because his bloodwork is tested as a fluke in the VA hospital in Colorado Springs. He's in for medical testing radical theoretical treatments, bloodwork comes back with incredible ATA, strongest they've seen. His mind working and racing all but unfettered by his body, as he can barely control his breathing and things from his neck/basic arm function up.
Because shrapnel sucks when you're hit from the back because your "team" pulls a landmine into the chopper with the patient.

I was struck by the idea that I'm searching for, as in 'Fandom thinks of everything! Even John and Rodney as penguins and household appliances! Someone *must* have written this!'

... I am still hoping that the Mythical Someone has, indeed, written this. BIZARRELY, so far, no luck....

Aw, I've been waiting to see if this search turns up anything, because I'm interested too. But since there's nada, I'll throw out a bit of self-promotion.
