[identity profile] calaiskenobi.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] sgarecfinders
Since I had such success with my first post, I thought I'd try again.  I'm looking for stories that, when read, made you really feel them.  Goose bumps, an honest gasp, the feeling of your heart dropping- any story that has one of those moments that you REALLY felt and that made the story stick with you.  I'm open to any pairing, het, slash, femslash, gen, anything.

Thanks in advance!

Hm, I think the first one that comes to mind for me is Tiger, Tiger (http://gaiaanarchy.livejournal.com/17417.html). I love the concept and the very end is what gives me that little "whoa" like feeling. It's John/Vala.

I have to also say that most of auburn's fic would fit your criteria. That being said this is the one that first popped into my head when I read your post. (Note that a lot of links I tried didn't work until the ~ in front of auburn was deleted. A tip I read somewhere.) Thanks for this request. I look forward to reading all the recs it generates.

One of my fav 'émotional impact'fics is "Your Cowboy Days are Over" So many times throughout this fic I felt my stomach clench out of despair for John and what he was going through. It brought me to tears and left me feeling jittery and disturbed over some of the choices John made to protect what was his, many times. http://www.butcheredart.net/Fiction/YourCowboyDays.html

It's also podfic'd and I've listened to it so many times I could recite most of it but it never fails to drag me back into the story no matter how many times I hear it. (Helps that it's beautifully read with emotion you can feel as well.)

I understand what you're saying about finding it difficult to 'get into'. The first time I looked at it I only read a fraction of it and gave up, I couldn't figure out what was happening and was confused by some things, but then I listened to the podfic and loved it (and realised the things that confused me were revealed further on in the story, I'd have had the answers if I'd kept reading but I'm not known for my patience.lol). I went back and read and reread it. It's one of my favs now.

Oh, and with all the rec's for Auburn's fics I thought I'd add one more. Have you read 'City of seven Walls'? There are also some side fics that go with this story that are terrific. It's also podficed (5hrs long, perfect time for the 5 hr trip from my home to my Mom's place, sure makes the travel easier to bear)

People keep mentioning Auburn's stories, and I second/third/fourth the recommendation. (The ones of hers that've done that to me in the most major way are Patchwork and Legion the Things I Would Give to Oblivion -- major darkfic warning on that last one, though!) Those two are at least nominally gen with maybe a bit of a McKay/Sheppard slant.

Deflection by Martha Wilson. You should probably know that this story uses a plot point from one of her other stories, but knowing which one would give away the OMGWTFBBQ moment in the fic. Suffice it to say that you'll come to a point that makes you go "... wait, that never happened in canon!" -- well, it's a reference to another story she wrote. But you don't have to read it to understand this one; a general familiarity with canon is enough. This is one of my favorite stories in the whole fandom because of the way it turns your brain inside out. Gen.

The Moon Be Still As Bright packs an incredible emotional wallop in a very short story. John & Rodney, gen.

The Slow Braille of Touch by [livejournal.com profile] beadattitude (McKay/Sheppard) makes my heart flip over even when I'm *not* in a McShep sort of mood.

[livejournal.com profile] iamrighthere only has a few stories, but they're incredible. The Known World and Happy are incredible, powerful, sink-into-your-heart-and-don't-let-go stories. Both are team gen; "Happy" is a bit more Ronon-centric (written long before Season Five, but weirdly prescient for "Broken Ties").

Angels in the Architecture by [livejournal.com profile] shetiger has a bit near the end that kicks me hard in the gut, every time. (Gen, John-focused.)

The Possibility of Communication by [livejournal.com profile] ameretrifle is the funniest deathfic ever, and then it sneaks up on you and whacks you with a bucketload of emotion. (Gen, Rodney-centric.)

Come and Join the Dance by [livejournal.com profile] mirabile_dictu is a really incredible Rodney/Teyla story that rips your heart out and then puts it back together.

FIC: Freedom's Just Another Word For Nothing Left To Lose (http://synecdochic.dreamwidth.org/59305.html) by [livejournal.com profile] synecdochic will always remain one of the most gripping stories on the 'net, any fandom, any genre, for me. Heartbreaking but ultimately hopeful.
Exigencies (http://rivier.livejournal.com/267985.html) by [livejournal.com profile] rivier is another memorable one. Dark and to me very real.
For a lighter tone, What You Trust (http://tex.livejournal.com/315683.html) by [livejournal.com profile] tex has a scene with Ronon hugging the rest of the team offworld that always gives me the fuzzies, no matter how down I am.

Do I overlook something or has actually nobody mentioned Speranza's "Written by the Victors" yet?

These are fairly well known. They're both in my haunting angst category. The first is a short story. The second is probably novella length.

Telesilla's Missing Man Formation is an absolutely beautiful fic. It's OT4 (nothing explicit I believe, it's been a while) and a deathfic though..

Just went up - Fade To Black by Whizzy

http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=15375

Summary: There was an entire pantheon of things Rodney was willing to concede could exist, even though he'd never personally witnessed evidence thereof. Time travel, for starters. Space aliens. The perfect man. But he absolutely, positively could not accept that he'd been dreaming of a guy he'd never seen before in his life, who turned out to be real. McShep

Totally creepy - be warned !Character Death!
