With scenes like this one John's flounce in the TRACKER EPISODE, it seems like season five has a lot of "oblivious Rodney with one-sided pining from John." Does anyone know of any good stories that deal with this topic throughout the events of season five?

Ha, the Flounce! John's so obvious.

Want (Shrine eptag, gen)
Frequently Wrong but Never in Doubt (post Shrine, general fix-it kind of NC17 fic)

(Mostly, my reaction to S5 was to start shipping John with other people, because he deserves happiness, too, ne!)

That scene is right out of a fanfic, yes?

I don't see it as oblivious Rodney, not with that half-guilty look he gets as John flounces away. Much more a Rodney who has been mucked around by John for years and is finally breaking away from him.

Sorry no story recs - just thanks for reminding me of that scene. There were precious few memorable moments in S5. (except for The Shrine, which was all memorable)

John sighed and turned to sit on the couch. "You ever hear me talk about women like that?" Rodney was quiet for a long moment. Then, "No. You never talk about them at all."

Hi, would you mind removing the embeded content and replacing it with a link and an explanation to what it is, so members who have slow net connections are not forced to watch if they want to find out what you're referring to? Thanks!

These might work...

Some selections from my "pining!John" and "oblivious!Rodney who's with Keller" lists (hope at least one is new for you!)

Operation Break-Up (http://valoryhope.livejournal.com/5413.html) by [livejournal.com profile] valoryhope - Basically, Rodney panics after the events of "Brain Storm" and enlists pining!John to help end his budding relationship with Keller.

life, the universe, and everything (http://uraneia.livejournal.com/19961.html) by the consistantly-amazing [livejournal.com profile] uraneia, in which John is pining (for Rodney and for his other-universe daugher) and jealous (of Keller, and of his other-universe self, who is a woman). Whatever, it's great, read it.

Chaos Theory (http://the-cephalopod.livejournal.com/25151.html) by [livejournal.com profile] the_cephalopod - I'm sure you've read this, but whatever, it's a classic of the genre. Long and indulgent and full of jealous-but-masochistic John.

Waiting For My Real Life to Begin (http://toomuchplor.wordpress.com/fic/waiting-for-my-real-life-to-begin/) by [livejournal.com profile] toomuchplor is a really cool futurefic that takes a circuitous but satisfying route to what I consider to be the logical conclusion (McShep :D). It's more in-depth about the Rodney/Jennifer thing and how it plays out (with John quietly pining in the background of course).

Up To and Including the Blue Moon Ball (http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/9092.html) by [livejournal.com profile] torakowalski is SO CUTE I ALWAYS WANT TO DIE OF HAPPINESS (John's competition is Katie in this one).

And, I don't know, I have a whole tag for pining!John mcshep fics, so here it is? http://delicious.com/eye_queue/pining%21john

Summary: Rodney suddenly had two good friends he was simultaneously in love with. And he desperately wanted to believe that love wasn't an either-or, except if the two people one was in love with didn't also love each other, one ended up with the unfortunate prospect of having to choose one of them or none at all.

It is one of my favorites. I think you'll enjoy it.
