Good fic for someone new to fandom! :)

 Hi! I'm super-new to Stargate Atlantis, and I'm looking for good fic to start off with. What are the classics? The must-reads? I'm particularly fond of McKay/Sheppard, but I'm open to anything. :)

Start here: 833 SGA Recs (http://strawtogold.net/steph/sgarecs.htm) It's got the classics listed, and some rarely read gems. I've had this rec list bookmarked for about two years, and I STILL haven't read it all. There are some dead links, but with a little googling, you can find most everything rec'd there.

Firstly! Welcome to the fandom! I hope you have fun here, I think it's an awesome place :)

This is a scatter-shot list as I am brain-dead... I'm sure I'm leaving things off, but hopefully this can get you started a bit.

I'm obviously fond of the fics which I have already recced at my journal: http://fish-echo.livejournal.com/tag/rec:sga but those are by no means anything close to an exhaustive list (my reccing gets interfered with by my writing fic which gets interfered with by my offline obligations, sadly).

Also, for shorter fic (~1K), fun pictures of action figures and food, and also SGA-themed recipes, might I point you in the direction of [De Re Coquinaria Pegasi (http://codenamebacon.wetpaint.com/)]? (This is also a bit of a self-pimp, as I was on the project, but I do think it is a marvelous project!)

I was thinking of this story earlier today: [Sheppard's Law (http://trickster.org/speranza/cesper/Sheppardslaw.html)] by speranza, which is McKay/Sheppard and involves time-traveling. There's also lovely [art (http://community.livejournal.com/amplificathon/186555.html)] for it by cybel and a [podfic (http://audiofic.jinjurly.com/sheppards-law)] version and an [audiobook (http://audiofic.jinjurly.com/sheppards-law-audiobook)] version as well.

Oh, and whilst finding the links for the above, I was reminded of [Aegis (http://community.livejournal.com/amplificathon/184363.html)] by Leah and springwoof (their joint writing LJ is leahwoof). (The link goes to a page which has links to both the podfic version and the text version. The audiobook version is nearby temporally on the same comm.) This story is decidedly set in an AU, so I understand if you maybe don't want to read it immediately, though you should definitely read it eventually!

As for rec lists, I'm blanking at the moment, so here's two ways I often go about looking for fics:
--I'll browse the [McKay/Sheppard (http://audiofic.jinjurly.com/category/fandomstargate-atlantis/mckay/sheppard)] tag at the audiofic archive, on the theory that someone loved the story enough to take the time to record it.
--There's also a comm called recsrainbow which is a noticeboard of when many rec sites get updated. You can troll through their [tags (http://recsrainbow.livejournal.com/tag)] to look for people who rec in [SGA (http://recsrainbow.livejournal.com/tag/stargate:+atlantis) (pairings aren't listed, but fandoms are), and hopefully you'll find someone whose recs you like.
