Hi, I never watched the Stargate episode 48 hours but I have been told that McKay was a real bastard in it, not surprising as I understand it he was supposed to be the not-entirely-evil-antagonist-that-shows-just-how-smart-and-dedicated-to-her-team-Carter-is character.

Anyway, I would really like to see stories where McKay interacts (or is forced to interact) with SGC or SG-1 and they like/are impressed by him.
Either after that episode and him having changed in Atlantis, or an AU of that episode where either his behavior is more on par with what it is in Atlantis or his bad behavior is explained in some way. Or an AU where 48 hours never happened and they meet under complete different circumstances, even an AU where the Stargate doesn't exist. It doesn't really matter what happens AU or not as long as McKay meets people at the SGC or SG-1 and they like him. I would prefer stories before Carter took over command of Atlantis but if the story is well written I will read anything. Gen or slash is better but het is all right too.

I would be grateful for any and all recommendations, thank you :-)

There's Nobody does it better or Rodney McKay and the Really Feisty Harem (http://midnight-tea.de/TF.htm) by eretria... haven't read it in a while but it should fit your criteria. (it says het in the notes, but IIRC it's gen with maybe a little flirting.)

Try www.keiramarcos.com. She writes more than one spectacular AU series.

I just read one from Sam Carter's POV, where she meets up again with Rodney and has a whole new impression of him... ah, Eleven Moments (http://ladyflowdi.livejournal.com/385321.html), by ladyflowdi: Really cool story from Sam's POV. After Jack's death, Sam and Daniel are both shipped off to Atlantis as a kind of 'retirement'... Sam's POV is marvelously seamless and very believable. She is such an astute character - best description of how Rodney's changed EVER.

McKay grows on Mitchell, not literally.

LOL! Sounds like a plot bunny. How Mitchell Came to Love His Irritating Fungal Skin Infection Named Rodney.

If you don't mind self-reccing, you might enjoy my story We Who Don't (http://ellex42.livejournal.com/56917.html#cutid1). It's a tag scene for the SG-1 crossover episode "The Pegasus Project" and references the SGA episode "Grace Under Pressure" and the SG-1 episode "48 Hours".

I suggest you see "48 Hours" for yourself - it's a great look at early McKay. Personally, I don't think he's a "real bastard"

*sigh* My fingers got ahead of me there. I meant, I don't think he's a "real bastard" in the episode, just incredible poor at dealing with other people.

I think the same, sort of. Everyone makes out like he tried to kill Teal'c in that episode, and he didn't; based on the information he had about gate technology, he estimated that Teal'c's pattern would steadily degrade to the point of non-viability (and his estimate was then used for political purposes by someone else, as even he pointed out); he also didn't see a way the DHD trick would work without killing them all and gave in to cowardice. But he didn't go trying to kill the guy; he just wasn't sufficiently motivated to risk the entire facility to save him with guesswork. And he was a total misogynist jerk to Carter personally, but he was right about her work -- she programmed a quick-and-dirty interface and she really was only guessing that he was wrong about the pattern degradation.

I've been thinking about this because I'm writing something that starts at the end of that episode, and I was surprised to realize how little he actually did -- beyond the verbal sexual harrassment of Carter -- to merit everyone's animosity and exile to Siberia. IDK. [/OT]

Yeah, I have the same impression. As is usual for Rodney, he was a jerk - no contest there - but he wasn't wrong, based on the information available, and not willing to take what he saw as a big risk for an uncertain payout. Seems pretty reasonable to me. Then again, a prevailing theme in both SG series is the whole "leave no man behind no matter what the risk" concept.

But it's also clear that Rodney rubs some viewers the wrong way, and I think their impression of him tends to rise to the surface of fandom when it comes to "48 Hours".

Not sure if these are entirely what you want, but they do deal with McKay and SG1 (usually Carter), with SG1 not being totally against McKay. They're all 100% Gen and by me.

After Russia - Pre-Atlantis. Rodney resigns and returns from Russia. Sam receives an enlightening, if somewhat worrying, email from her most irritating admire... Also includes Jack and Daniel as well.

Unlikely Target - Rodney is kidnapped and ends up in the hands of Anubis... Set mainly pre-Atlantis (McKay), a crossover with SG1 (mainly Sam and Jack), set during SG1’s season 7 (sometime before ‘Heroes’). Daniel also makes an appearence.

Just Us Few - Season 3. Set after The Return, Part Two. Jack thinks they are all crazy and doesn’t like McKay. McKay won’t go to sleep, but Sheppard has a plan... Okay, Jack doesn't end up liking McKay, but perhaps appreciating him a bit more.

Look Back in Anger - more about McKay's past than anything else, but John and Sam are both there, and come to understand Rodney more through it.

Insulting Your Enemies - not my best writing in some ways, but Sam is okay with Rodney in the end scenes so should fit your criteria (I think).

The Cousins Series - an AU about Rodney - SG1 turn up in parts 2 & 3. I think Carter is sympathetic to McKay.

Families - more a look at Sam taking over in Season 4, but does include Rodney in a favourable light.

As I said, they might not be entirely what you're looking for, but I do like to explore McKay and SG1 at times - and try to find ways for SG1 memebers to appreciate/understand Rodney more - and even perhaps like him! I have one that I think you would like that is in the final editing stages. Certainly, Mitchell gets to appreciate McKay in it! Check my site out at the end of October, I should have it up by then. It'll be called The Journey.

I'll have a quick look through my fav stories by other people and see if I can find more for you.

I knew there was a fic that was right up your street somewhere in my re-read folder!

Stranger Things Have Happened Carter struggles to see the changes in McKay that she's heard about - but seeing him and Sheppard together helps!
