While I love McShep of all types, sometimes it doesn't seem very realistic.It seems even in the ones where they are previously straight, when it comes down to the sex, they seem to know automatically what to do. They also seem to have given it some thought at some point(the fact that they could have sex with another guy) Does anyone know of a fic or fics where the characters have never considered that sort of thing? Or, where the characters have no clue about how to have sex with someone of the same sex? I may have read all the Rodney virgin and straight from crossroads, not sure due to I favor those listed Rodney bottom. I'm not opposed to Rodney/other and would welcome any where Carson has to explain things to the boys or get involved himself. Thank You.

I'd just like to add that I think the idea of a fic where Carson voluntarily talks to Rodney & John(!) about How to Do Hot Gay Lovin' is the funniest thing I've heard all week! (Tho' the fic itself could be serious, of course—I'm just talking about the idea.)

Related musing.... I've read fics where Carson is tongue-tied & amazed or embarrassed when he finds out Teh Boyz are doin' it; I've read ones where Carson manfully tries to "do his duty" & give medical info or safe-sex advice after John or Rodney suffers some sexual misadventure; I've even read a couple where Carson trips over his tongue as he tries to offer supplies or suggestions when he somehow learns they're having sex with another man. But the only fics I can remember off-hand where Carson is unashamed & articulate are ones where Carson himself is gay/bi & experienced. Isn't that strange? So many fics portray Carson as a competent & compassionate physician, yet they usually show him as skilled at sex-ed only when he's speaking from personal experience.

The ones where someone else is watching or helping adds a little something to the plot for me. One of my favorites is "Yoshino" a lovely story with John, Rodney, and Sam. And your right,you don't see a lot of those with Carson skilled at sex ed but I wonder if that's something they learn as part of the curriculum. I mean sex and reproductive related illnesses sure but how to's...I don't know.

I wouldn't call it incredibly realistic, but the story is a riot! I was so happy when the boys finally got their mojo synchronized by the end!
