Silent generosity
May. 24th, 2009 08:26 pmHi, I have three interrelated requests:
1. Stories where Rodney does things for others and never says a word about it - either for individuals or for the city as a whole or offworld.
2. Stories where people quietly do things for Rodney - little things done by one person or big conspiracies are both welcome.
3. Stories where people recognize the contrast between Rodney's actions and his words. Because he doesn't get enough credit for being a truly good man.
Thanks :o)

Date: 2009-05-25 05:57 am (UTC)In Friendly (http://archiveofourown.org/en/works/1400?view_adult=true), but speranza, Rodney is the hub of a specific community, such as it is, on Atlantis; he does a great deal for others, which often must, by necessity, go unacknowledged. Great fic all-around. :)
In Overture (http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/12469.html), the inhabitants of Atlantis assemble a piano for Rodney, piece by piece. I think this is exactly what you're looking for in regards to #2. Likewise, in Atlantis City Limits (http://sardonicsmiley.livejournal.com/29007.html), John wins an instrument offworld and leaves it in Rodney's room without explanation.
Semivowel's Something Like It (http://semivowel.livejournal.com/4505.html) has the entire Team watching out for Sheppard - his integrity, not his life - in a very intriguing set-up. However, it's Rodney that first steps in, and Rodney who coordinates everyone's efforts to aid John.
Twelve (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=8593) is likely the most *creative* response, but probably not the flavor you're looking for. Miko does something incredibly important for Rodney: something he will never fully understand.
Children's Classics (http://community.livejournal.com/mckay_sheppard/2212654.html#cutid1) is one of those stories in fandom I think is amazing but haven't seen rec'd a great deal. Rodney does something very ordinary yet very special for John in this piece, in very difficult circumstances.
Finally, in Charting the Motion of Planets (http://www.area52hkh.net/asd/dasha/charting.php), Rodney does something incredible for Atlantis... not that he necessarily believes they'll figure it out.
I could probably go on for awhile, but there's a start. :)

Date: 2009-05-25 06:26 pm (UTC)We've got Less to Say (http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/37835.html) by flatlanddan: “Rodney always came through for us. At the eleventh hour, sometimes, but he always came through.” It's an epistle, and likely one of the best fics I've rec'd so far. I really <3 this one with all my heart.
In A Slightly Different Quality of Light (http://glitterati.talkoncorners.net/fiction/qualityoflight.html), Rodney makes sacrifices of time and energy in order to save a fragmented John.
Chrysothermis's Fix (http://crys.mrks.org/sga/fic/fix-john.html), another one of my absolute favorites, has McKay making what one may assume is the biggest sacrifice possible without giving up his life. John's POV is the best in my opinion, and that's what I've linked to; but I think that all depends on which one you've read first.
Alone in a Crowded Room (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4573824/1/Alone_In_a_Crowded_Room) has Rodney helping Sheppard and reassuring him at a time when he is uncertain John is even fully aware of him.
The Place I Go (http://danceswithgary.livejournal.com/282336.html) has John *trying* to do something thoughtful and helpful for Rodney, but it ends up rather the other way around.
Little Storms (http://chandri.livejournal.com/755632.html) has Teyla helping Rodney out in small and unobtrusive ways, and Rodney in turn helping to plan the Athosian Festival of Lights. This is interspersed with frequent McShep angst.
Along similar lines is Ashna and Eshon (http://community.livejournal.com/sticksandsnark/24832.html), in which Rodney realizes he has never even said 'hello' to Teyla in her own language, and sets out to learn. Athosian for Beginners (http://trinityofone.livejournal.com/122785.html) is another story in which Rodney tries to understand Teyla's Athosian, but this time because the 'Gate's translator malfunctions.
...and, again, I think that's it for now. :)

It sorts of fit # 1 request and its not a death fic even though it starts out like it is
