[identity profile] ribbon-purple.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] sgarecfinders

I know I post a lot of requests here – I’m pretty much a bibliophile just with fan fiction instead of actual books (basically, I’m addicted and I don’t care) – but I have another one I could use all you lovely people’s help with: I’m looking for McShep fics that are heartbreakingly sad up until the very end where the story finishes with a happy or at least semi-happy conclusion.

No WIP, please.

Thank you! :o)

That's just a few, heheheh.

Also I have a soft spot for the angstiest post-Trinity fics I can get, so long as they end okay, (I can't really do angsty endings,) so if you want to check out my Trinity tag on Delicious, go ahead. Trinity (http://delicious.com/outsideth3box/Trinity)

Never Going Home (http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/40102.html) by [livejournal.com profile] bluflamingo. Heartbreaking, but the ending - although not super happy - brings some relief.

Cartography by Touch (http://glitterati.talkoncorners.net/fiction/cartography.php) by [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock. There's not a happy ending per say, because nothing is fixed (it can't be), but there is hope that they'll be able to move on. NOTE: deals with the aftermath of rape.

You might like to know that there's a sequel with, again, not your traditional happy ending, but something better.

The Experiment (http://www.perchance-to-dream.net/luna/experiment.html) by [livejournal.com profile] lunasky John and Rodney are captured and imprisoned together in a windowless room. There is a major unexpected but well executed plot twist ... watch out for it! :) I wouldn't say the ending is necessarily happy, but it certainly isn't sad either.

The Taste of Apples (http://www.eternalvox.net/~auburn/apples.html) and the sequel Sacrificial Drift (http://www.eternalvox.net/~auburn/SacrificialDrift.html) by [livejournal.com profile] auburnnothenna Two very long and excellent stories. The first is gen with implied one-sided UST (it's more of a teamfic) and the story is extremely bittersweet. The sequel is McShep and the ending is much more upbeat ... though both boys certainly suffer enough to earn the happy ending they deserve!

Hopefully these fit your search parameters. They are both wonderful stories! Happy reading. :)

And following on from The Taste of Apples and Sacrificial Drift is The Water Grinds the Stone (http://www.eternalvox.net/~auburn/TWGTS.xhtml) an epic story of John and Rodney over 20-some years during declassification and all the changes and heartbreak it brings. Be warned - don't start reading if you don't want to be sucked in and abandon all else! It is over 240,000 words. It took me 3 nights to read and I was pretty worthless for anything else. And I was teary through much of it.

Actually much of Auburn's stuff would fit your bill (though she doesn't always guarantee a happy ending). Here's her website: http://www.eternalvox.net/~auburn/fiction.html

Oh man, how did I miss that? Now I'm really excited because I love Auburn's work! I sense my projected productivity for the week has just flatlined. :)

Thanks! <3
