[identity profile] jane-elliot.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] sgarecfinders

I used to be a huge fan of SGA fanfic, but drifted away from the fandom a couple of years ago.  Today I'm feeling a bit nostalgic and am looking for SGA recs.  However, since I've already read a *lot* of fic in the fandom (and what a big fandom it is), I do have a few qualifiers that will hopefully make this a somewhat less daunting request.

1.  McKay/Sheppard, please.

2.  With a happy ending and no character death (at least with regards to McKay or Sheppard).

3.  Longer stories are of win.

4.  Website/archive links only, please (I've just about given up reading anything on LJ).  [EDIT: The reason I read so little on LJ is because I download stories to read later and many stories on LJ have just a couple of thousand words per post, which makes downloading long stories a challenge.  However, long stories with ~10,000 words per post would be great, LJ or no.]

5.  I've already cleaned out the Big Bang sites, unless there's one for 2009 that I missed.

6.  I seem to have lost my taste for AUs (which is a huge departure for me -- that used to be 90% of what I read), so stories at least mostly based on canon would be appreciated.  [EDIT 2: (because I suck at clarity)  All fanfic is AU to some extent, so I'm not going to quibble about John and Rodney both going into the time dilation field, or the circumstances of them ending up in Atlantis not being canon, or them ending up on a deserted island together for six months where they have nothing to do but have sex.  I'm just hoping to avoid total AUs, like where John's a caterer *cough* or some such.  As long as there is an Atlantis, John and Rodney are both there, and Sumner is, preferably, not, all is good.]

7.  The really big fandom classics can probably be skipped (this includes anything by Pru, Astolat, Speranza, trinityofone, 'Freedom Is Just Another Word for Nothing Left to Lose', and/or anything with 'Iowa' in the title or premise).

(8.  And since I'm crossposting to a genre-specific comm, I love long angsty stories with happy endings (touches of humor to relieve the tension a bonus).  Not so much a fan of graphic violence, non-con of any sort, or really dark stories.)

Thanks in advance!

Hmmm. It's actually very limiting to go only for non-LJ links.

I do recommend Rebuilding Babel (http://fiercelydreamed.talkoncorners.net/main/archives/stargate-atlantis/rebuilding-babel/#more-4) by [livejournal.com profile] fiercelydreamed. It's long and angsty (with a positive ending), and extremely well written. It's the one where Rodney loses the ability to communicate through speech.

Oh, I totally undertstand why you would prefer non-LJ sources. I just kept being stumped when I would think of a great story and then find that it wasn't on Wraithbait and the author didn't have a website. :o( I was surprised, because back when I got into the fandom, it seemed like a majority of authors also posted to archives. I was either mistaken then or there's been a shift toward LJ in the fandom.

If I find off-LJ links for good stories, though, I'll come back and share.

I'm not sure how old or new these stories are, but I didn't see Shaenie's name or titles on your list of Really Big Fandom Classics, and life is not complete without "Indelible." Long, plotty, angsty, happy ending. And, actually, all Shaenie's stuff is terrific. Here: http://www.fictumfictorium.com/shaenie/fiction.html

Ok this is another Atlantis AU but it doesn't stray that far from canon and it's really really Long.

There is a short John/Ronon and Rodney/Ronon but main pairing is John/Rodney

Your request is really hard because most of the long fics are at least a little AU :)

You might want to give Kiera Marcos a try: http://keiramarcos.com/
I love her "What Might Have Been" series--it's AU, but give the first story a look, you might like it: http://keiramarcos.com/what-might-have-been-series-atlantis-au/

Overall, I've found the search engine for Wraithbait to be sub-par, but I enjoy looking through the offerings when I instead just click on a specific pairing under categories.

Have you searched Area 52 recently? Or Archive of Our Own? http://archiveofourown.org/en/tags/Stargate%20Atlantis/works

I bet you have read this but the World according to Rover by Rina and Orithain is a long multi-chaptered story that's really good. Another is the Geeks and Goons series. There are a couple by Lady RA that are also good. The Connection is a long cross over with SG 1 with Jack as John's father. All these are on Wraithbait.

Just posted yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] whizzy's first SGA story is novel length at 64K words, and it's wonderful. It's a pre-Atlantis story that brings John and Rodney into the Stargate program through different routes than canon, but they are most definitely the same characters; their lives just took slightly different branches on the way to Atlantis.

Black Helicopters at Dawn (http://whizzy.livejournal.com/590305.html) by [livejournal.com profile] whizzy (LJ post links to fic offsite)

My rec post for it is here (http://malnpudl.livejournal.com/580123.html) if you want a bit more info.

Though you said that you didn't want anything from Cesperanza - I assume because you've read it all already - she did just post a new fic a few days ago, Sheppard's Law (http://trickster.org/speranza/cesper/Sheppardslaw.html), and it is both long and really, really good.

I'll never be tired of pimping Rheanna's stories. They are here (http://www.goldenmaze.com/#SGA). The Hard Prayer (http://www.goldenmaze.com/hardprayer.htm) is an AU fic, but an AU that could be a beginning of something resembling the canon. It also is my favourite story of the fandom. She has a very beautifully done Flowers for Elgernon kind of story (http://www.goldenmaze.com/theoryofeverything.htm), and couple of other good long fics. Hope you'll enjoy.

I just want to thank you for posting this request! I've just fallen headlong into SGA after resisting it for umpty-twelve years and now I'm filling up my ebook reader with lovely, long stories.
