Colonel Sumner

Righty-ho. My google-fu has failed me and so I come to you guys for help :-D

I'm looking for any fics where Colonel Sumner survives somehow. Maybe Sheppard saves him or he isnt the one taken by the Wraith. I think it would create a very interesting dynamic and would especially be interested in seeing hoe Sheppard would act under his command.

I looked back through several tags but couldn't find this request or any involving Sumner really. I dont mind if hes a bad commander, good commander, weird AU alien commander. Just any fics featuring Sumner please.

Well, I remember stumbling upon someone's Delicious account, they had a tag called Sumnerland, and LOTS AND LOTS of stories with Sumner in charge of Atlantis. Unfortunately my computer skills are beyond sucky, and so when I tried to find it, all I found was this

There is in fact a large genre of this fic convention. Smittywing has a ton of it and some of the best. There's a missporcupine fic where he survived in an AU and comes through the gate to ours.

Ok, I feel a little stupid now. Splitbeak must have posted her reply while I was still searching for that stupid tag!
However, while her (or his, I don't know) bookmarked stories are great, her page wasn't the one I was referring too. There's someone out there with PAGES of alive!Sumner fics, and I remember this distincly because I found one of my favourite fics on it.

Let's see... there's That Which is Always Present (http://offpanel.net/dmz/sga/always_present.html), in which the wormhole opens, and out spills: Lieutenant Aiden Ford. Sgt. Markham. Torren of the Athosians. And Colonel Sumner. Quite well-done.

In Speaking for the Dead (http://community.livejournal.com/sga_flashfic/626883.html?view=24948163#t24948163) Sumner is present in an out-of-the-ordinary capacity. "Sumner knows how to work the reverse psychology angle, making Sheppard wonder if he'd ever been a drill Sergent. Maybe in a second life, perhaps? No, the whole second-life thing had officially been chucked out the window..."

The Roads Never Lead Where They're Supposed to Go (http://dejabu.robot-army.org/sgaroads.html) is an AU in the truest sense: Sheppard is a *botanist*, of all things - and it actually works. Zelenka somehow ends up chosen over Rodney as the head honcho of the physics folks. And for reasons unknown, Col. Sumner does not die. Excellent and lovely.

Last but most certainly not least, there's Mirror, Mirror on the Wall (http://www.davidhewlett.co.uk/fiction/viewstory.php?sid=35) by Tarlan, but I'm afraid Sumner's presence is peripheral to the rest of the story.

And... ah ha! I thought I'd lost this story. In Deflection (http://www.ltljverse.com/watergate/stories/deflection.htm), by Martha Wilson, John knows he is not where he should be, and knows he is a substitute for the 'real' John Sheppard. The rest is conjecture, fear, and conditioning - until Rodney's attitude towards him alters profoundly. Starts out dark but it picks up.
