[identity profile] laconicneeds.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] sgarecfinders
Okay, so I've been through the past posts and over at [livejournal.com profile] sgastoryfinders, and I am fresh out of ideas. Please rec any stories that you always read or ones that have current caught your attention. I've read a lot, but I need a fresh perspective since the usual places I look haven't updated. So AU, alternate history, kids, hurt/comfort, etc. My only problem is no rape and preferably McShep.

Thanks in advance!

Architects of Fate (http://www.davidhewlett.co.uk/fiction/viewstory.php?sid=115) by Tarlan is pretty fantastic and I've read it lots. Actually, pretty much anything by Tarlan is win.

The Boy Next Door (http://www.area52hkh.net/asr/rina/boynext01.php) by Orithain and Rina is great. Lots of hurt/comfort, esp in the second part.

Both are AU, both are McShep and both are bloody brilliant (:

Here is one I just read and its amazing:

A Short Record of Outmoded Concepts and Theories of the Tauri'i (http://community.livejournal.com/artword/52227.html?view=861443#t861443) by pogrebin

It has some implied John/Rodney (though very little if any from what I saw) and it is a bleak telling of how Rodney, John and the Universe reacts when the end of everything is imminent. Simply amazing.

I have a weak spot for both well-realized AUs and quantum mirror fic.

Since I dislike it when others present me with a huge list, I'll give you some specific recs, then the links to my delicious if you decide our taste is similar.

Pure AU fic:

Liminal (http://www.alyse.info/sesa_files/liminal.htm). Beautiful, dreamlike story of the 'Lanteans building a home together after many are left without in post-WWII Britian. But when the ghosts start appearing, along with the phantasm of a city-in-the-sea, and mysterious crystals that light to the touch of John's hand, Elizabeth and her people must embark on one more journey...

In A Place on the Corner (http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/53637.html), John runs a bakery and Rodney... really likes to eat. The story is told holiday-by-holiday as John gets to know his most enthusiastic customer. Sweet and cool.

There are a bunch of fics that take place far in the past, somewhat romance-novel-esque (in the best of ways!) One of these is A Dangerous Desire, or McKay Makes a Match (http://janne-d.livejournal.com/32547.html), in which Rodney is kidnapped by Sora's father, and it's John - or Lord Wessex, rather - to the rescue. The inclusion of the SG-1 characters worked well here - very sweet and funny.

Another along similar lines is the Pirate's Prisoner (http://www.rhymer.org.uk/sga/pirate/pirate.htm), in which Rodney is captured by the Dread Pirate Sheppard and his merry band of outlaws. Of course, Rodney has particular ideas about how pirates behave...

Quantum Mirror Fic... which I define as one of the characters encountering him/herself.

There's always the excellent No Place Like Home (http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/47995.html): A multiverse-hopping marble sends John on an adventure in investigating the John/Rodney dynamic. Really an incredibly cool one, there.

Madison's Quantum Mirror fic is always really good. She wrote the Second Series (http://www.area52hkh.net/asm/madison/secondbe.php), where John is 'rescued' from a crappy AU and brought to replace Colonel John Sheppard, who has died; there are some intriguing issues of identity here.

the Light of a Fading Sun (http://friendshipper.laylalawlor.com/fadingsun.shtml), by friendshipper: Doranda is the final straw in an already strained relationship. Then Rodney and John from another universe show up, turning the AU on its ear...

Deflection (http://www.ltljverse.com/watergate/stories/deflection.htm), by Martha Wilson: John knows he is not in the right place - or perhaps that he's not quite the right man.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall (http://www.davidhewlett.co.uk/fiction/viewstory.php?sid=35) by Tarlan - John falls into a universe in which he's about to marry Sam Carter; Rodney isn't even in the picture.

Take the Long Way Home (http://sardonicsmiley.livejournal.com/39997.html) by sardonicsmiley: in which Rodney helplessly watches a new AU John replace the old one every 24 hours.

There are *oodles* more: AU linky! (http://delicious.com/Kirinin/AU) Quantum Mirror Linky! (http://delicious.com/Kirinin/quantummirror).

Have fun!

Not my post, but I have to say you're a total star for putting all these links up. A lot of them I haven't read yet, so thank you!
