I'm reccing authors that have been here for a while but hopefully you'll find something of theirs you like:

likethekoschka is the work of two authors, Koschka and liketheriver, and they feature McShep where John is quite protective of Rodney. Individually, their fics also support a very strong McShep friendship theme, with John usually protecting. Most of their fics are action/adventure with combination mild angst and humor.

tarlanx also does protective John and she has a number of fics.
